Default Crank Position Sensor

Hi Everyone:

I have just come to find out that the housing (the end which connects to a wire harness) on my crank position sensor is crumbling apart. Just to be clear, it is the end which does not have the sensor.

Also, my understanding is that the original part is discontinued and replaced with a 996 part which requires one to retrofit the wire harness.

Has anyone changed this part and if so, how complicated is the task? What were your learnings?

Its just a question of replacing the connectors:- https://www.fvd.net/us-en/9966061059...on-sensor.html.
Mine was done a while ago, pretty simple but the sensor was seized in the clamp which also had to be replaced.

Is the sensor wire replaceable with the engine still in the car?

New sensor has different plug so the socket has to be changed. Need a lift but can be done in situ.. Headlamp washer pump has similar change of plug.
