Simon,
5 litres in an early +8 Now there's a power-to-weight ratio that pretty much anyone on rennlist would be proud of!
About the Volvos; pretty cool Volvos, especially the 123GT. Note that I have a (266K mile) Swedish car, too.

Todd. Youre right the +8 doesnt carry much flab. It weighs 840kgs and when we dynoed it a fortnight ago it had 488nm of torque and 213rwhp. The cam is very lazy, for low down torque, and the engine is a newly built 99 range rover stroked to 5 litres with the induction gear off a 2001 range rover, which gives it long intake runners. Max torque is at 2200 rpm through to 2600 rpm. We run a Haltech engine management system, and it has no temperament at all. We think it will run elevens if we are game enough to try. I may leave this to my demented mechanic. It runs a button clutch and a toyota supra steel case five speed gearbox. It is absolutely standard in appearance, with its narrow body and is a great surprise to those unused to real acceleration. It is the antithesis of all things Porsche, sort of blacksmiths forge versus ruthless efficiency. The VSCC season is about to start here and it should be very useful at hillclimbing we think.
