Several Stereo Questions
Like the look of the CDR 220 but have some questions:
1. Do the 996/Boxster CDR 220s fit the 993?
2. Does anyone have a CDR 220 mated with an external amp? If so, does it significantly improve the sound? Where do you have the amp mounted?
3. If you go with a Porsche CD changer in the trunk, what do you do with it when you go to the track? Take it out or leave it in?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Randy,
I just installed a CDR 220 in my 993 a few weeks ago. To answer some of your questions:
1. The CDR 220 fits the 993 but it is very hard to see the display (due to mounting angle) unless you buy a modified face plate ($50 w/ exchange) from Becker.
2. I have the CDR 220 mated to the stock hi-fi amp under the passenger seat. Sounds fine with the stock amp but I'm sure it would sound better with an aftermarket amp.
3. I do not have a Porsche CD changer. I hope to get an Apple ipod soon!!!!

when you order the revised face plate from Becker, ask for the adapter coupler to run an external amp. ( goes into the back of the head unit and has rca plugs on the other end to attach rca cables to your amp.) I think the adapter only cost $10 or $15 .

As far as what to do with the CD Changer for track events. I leave mine in the trunk. It is securely screwed into the trunk wall - I think there is a mounting DIY on Robin's site: www.p-car.com.
