Guys I am in mod hell. I gotta get some stuff done
and my wife has put me in Mod Time out. Now I used
to be a professional artist before my job and my kids
got in the way. so tonite I for the first time airbrushed
a helmet. Now I have seen pics and pics of you guys in
your white helmets and its pretty damn boring -so for you
guys who would like to make a donation to old guys
mod fund, I would gladly paint your helmet. its has to
be an idea of yours and mine to personalize it, but we can
discuss that later. here is tonites experiment. This cant
get any worse. I used model laquer paint and tire clear coat.
for a real helmet I would use auto base and clear coat paint
system. here is the first pic of the first helmet.
like I said it cant get any worse but this came out
pretty well. I did this all free hand- for a more complicated
design we would use a masking system.
Troy Lee watch out!! Remember I have been smelling
paint fumes for 4 hours! this is really for my Motocross
buddies but I cant leave you all out!!

old guy ....... ok first of all you have a tt and you don't need to add any more horsepower (when does the madness end?), secondly ........ as for the helmet, you have wayyyyyyyyyyyy too much time on your hands.

What would be funny as crap is if you airbrushed the helmet to look like the drivers head! HAHAHA We would look like those bobble-head things!
I think ide have to give a passing signal just to get that hilarious sight out of my rear view!

going on that same idea, can you airbrush my face on the back of my helmet? So it would appear that I'm looking backwards when I'm really looking forward? Where do I send my helmet and my check???

Old Guy - That's pretty cool...maybe the HWFMR boys can get "turtle head" helmets. As a motorcycle rider I'm a big fan of the helmets worn by the GP guys...esp the Japanese riders who have big eyes painted on there helmets which I imagine could be unsettling to someone looking over their shoulder! Valentino Rossi also has some pretty wild graphics.

Hey OG, this is getting kinda scary, are you my long lost brother or something, dirt bikes, Porsches, now this...

I just bought a house and now I'm bringing all my airbrush stuff here from Finland, I never was pro but I've painted quite a few helmets, cell phones (this was abotu 10 years ago when people had no clue that your cell phone could look something else than black), cars etc.

I agree, white helmets are boring and I've been anxcious to get my "hat" properly painted! I'va already designed few different schemes, I think I'll go with steel plate backround (square & rectangular metal pieces with screws) and then have some blue and white flames and stripes (colors from Finnish flag) and then some 3-D shadows etc. to finish it off.

I like the idea of painting turtle head, I once saw monkey head painted and then visor was like goggles, it looked great.
My idea would be to do turtle head wearing black old style goggles with worn leather strap and hole in the back showing brains "drooling" out (leather strap barely keeping some of them in) or just empty black hole and next to the hole one of those bright red flags aeroplanes or dragsters have where it says "remove before take off" ...

I don't have any photos of my "paintings" in digital format but I'll scan some and show to you later, meanwhile, what do you guys think of this design?

OG - I agree; the white helmets are boring as hell, but all of my money has gone into go/handle-fast stuff. Your helmet looks cool and reminds me of Spiderman's mask.

FF - I like your personal helmet design. It sounds like it would be very industrial looking and really wild with the steel/flame/Finnish flag combo.

As for your moon helmet, perhaps it would be most effective for a kart driver. For a true karting distraction, I think a Varga style girl would disrupt the concentration of the mostly male field.

it. I have to make sure about the quality of the paint first
with an automotive system of base and clear coat. But we
can start designing. I am gonna paint one more helmet with
good stuff first to make all the brush and clear coat adjustments
probably do that this week.

Wish I had some skill that would appeal to this crowd (Robin's RSR mods also come to mind here). I do teach dance (swing, salsa, etc.) on the side occasionally but I can't see that leading to my being a rennlist sponsor a la Viperbob.
