i have recently taken the distributor out of the car to replace the distributor belt but now after putting it back the car won't start. ignition is working and the engine is turning, but there is no fire . i made sure when i removed the distributor that the engine was at TDC and the rotors on the distributor ware pointing at the marks on the distributor housing . i did not move or turn the engine by hand when the distributor was out and put it back exactly how it was . any idea how to solve this ?
Are you sure you're on TDC compression stroke? If it was put back exactly as before then it will work. How did you verify spark?
Yes I believe in 4 stroke engines one needs to be in the compression cycle not the exhaust cycle even though they both share the same mark on the drive shaft.

rotors both pointing to their respective #1 marks?
Hall effect sensor plugged in?
Did you mess with the cap & wires at all?
