Dave, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by a noth in this case. Did you toss toss the AJ's pedal, or do you still have it somewhere? If so, I'd like to take a closer look at it to try and understand something.

Looking at things, it appears to me more and more that a cab has a more angled vinyl footrest area than a coupe (extra bracing there?). In other wirds, cab's vinyl is not parallel to the gas pedal. I need to look at the two side by side though.

I have posted images of both the black and aluminum finish foot rests. Both show the notches. There is no corresponding notch on my 95 Tip Cab. The installation instructions also refer to this notch. The foots rest are supposed to fit every 911 from 1989-1997.

One note, either the images in the catalog show rests for left and right hand drive hehicles or one image is upside down and mirrored.
