O.k. I did a search and have found 100% contradictory information so I wanted to know if I actually have this information right. (According to the majority of information I found, is this true?):
Bishoff was used in 94, 95 and some early 96 993s and has OVAL pipes.
Gillet was introduced sometime in 96 and is on 97 and 98s as well and is round.
I have a 96 993 tip build in mid 96 production (3/96) and it appears to be round, so that means gillet, right?

I am not sure about the tips but if you look under the car you can see what kind of muffler it is. It will be stamped on the muffler which one it is. You will not need to jack the car up to do this. Hope this helps.

the round/ oval difference refers to the flange between the heat exchager/header and the cat. converter inlet.

I have a 1996 C4S that has the Bischoff heat exchangers with the oval type flange but my stock mufflers are Gillet.
Is there any advantage of one(round Gillet vs oval Bischoff) over the other?

its a matter of knowing which one to buy aftermarket components for..
It's not very reassuring to hear the mufflers are gillet but the cat connection to the header is bischoff on another 96

My 97 C4S w/ motorsound has Bischoff mufflers. I don't think there is much difference other than the name and how the muffler connects to the pipes from the catalytic. Check out P-Car.com, Robin discusses the differences somewhat in the FAQ area when looking into his RSRs.

well, my 96 c2 has the factory motor sound package also but I could swear it was the gillet (round) connections... I guess I'll have to look closer to tell for sure
