Putting Things Into Perspective.....
What a great thread you've started - it goes to show how emotive a 911 is when kids, houses and marriage are discussed alongside it!
I'm a few months ahead of you in the buying process and (ahem) a few years ahead of you in age (32) though I've got the excuse that the car, maintenance and insurance are more expensive in the UK. I went for it in Dec and I'm still scared by the costs but haven't regretted it yet. Normal cars just don't compare. Although I've been v poor since Dec, you can't get the smile off my face when I'm in my 993.
My advice is do it - even if you have to compromise on the type of 911 - but do your sums first. Research the lot. Try driving different 911s. Carefully consider running costs, depreciation, salary, mortgage and everything into the medium-long term, and remember if it all goes wrong, you can sell the car for very little or no loss (depending on the model).
Good luck.
James
PS Have you ever seen such emotional replies on a mortgage forum...?
Whats the average running cost for most, like $3000 give or take on your cars condition? (and if you dont catch the mod-bug) I know people that can come up with that money if they would just eat out a few less times per week! If you are motivated towards the car, and it is a priority, you will have a blast no matter what 911 you chose! Porsches are in no way good investments for cash, but i feel they are one of the best invesments for personal health! Very relaxing, and they can clear your mind for hours on end! Good way to get away from things during high stress!
