Exclamation Ebay scam!

I was conned into paying $1645. for a set of wheels on Ebay about two months ago. I'm still hoping to get the upperhand on this. The scam appeared to be a fraudulent seller that was somehow posing as a well-established Ebay seller. The item # was 1873310898.
Now, I have found the same scam being repeated in item number 2401155579, and several others listed by "southern-exchange".
Ebay has been essentially non-responsive, so far.
Don't bid with confidence on these items!

Stiffride,

I too have bidded on some Southern-exchange auctions. Have not been top bidder. I talked to the person who handles the wheels, Jamie, on several occassions.

I've emailed Jamie to ask about item 2401155579 and asked if it's his or not.

Hope you can recoup your loss.

I don't see any signs of a scam. Can you elaborate on how you believe you were scammed by someone posing as a reputable seller?

Sorry to hear about your bad luck.

This 'same' set of wheels have been for sale for many many times (I think I posted once something about them).

I was very suspicious about them.
I mean, forged HRE 540 wheels (and tyres) for $1500... That's just way too good to be true. I e-mailed the guy and asked about the offsets. He practically 'had' all offsets in the world...
Offset that I 'needed' was something like -86 & 89 and he said "yes, I happend to have them!"

I knew he was screwing me up (bank wire only...) I offered to come and pick the wheels up & pay cash, after that, no reply.

As I understand, Southern Exchance is ok though?

I find Southern Exchange to be legit, but re-checking the original auction number posted above I can see how someone scammed one of their auctions using a different payment scheme.

Ron-please update us when you hear from them.

Chris C,

Jamie at Southern-exchange had previously told me that someone had in the past stolen his identity and that as soon as he found out he had the ad removed. I don't know the mechanics of having your identity stolen but apparently it can be done.

FF,

I saw that HRE ad and asked what the offsets were too. I was told they could make them up however I wanted them. Sounded like B.S. If the deal sounds to good to be true don't part with your cash until you have the item in your hand.
Or in the alternative ask a fellow Rennlister to look at the item for you.

Steve in New York was nice enough to check out some wheels and tires that were on ebay. The seller had a 0 rating. The buyer checked out to be just fine as did the wheel and tire set. I did not meet the reserve so I did not get the item.

Not to be an antagonist... But that HRE auction does not even look legit by just scanning it.

I mean look at this sentence in the description alone:

"...If you don't want lose your time and don't want for ending of auction you can buy these wheels..."

As soon as I see cobbled up crap like that I lose faith in the seller immediately. You should as well.

It does not take much to read through the lines on these.

If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck...

I agree. I missed the HRE auction on first read. The second link/auction looks legit as do all of Southern Exchange's others.

I bid on those wheels, but then retracted my bid. 1500 for wheels and tires (HRE wheels) was too good to be true. If you kept looking at the auction the bid went up to 14,000!? They aso wanted a wire transfer so there would be no way of getting back your funds if they were to run with your money.

FYI they aren't Southern Exchange. They have just taken the pictures they used before for the wheels. Lookin at teh sellers past history of 1200+ positive feedbacks.. there is nothing to show that he/she has sold wheels before. They were all baseball cards.

I won an auction through "Southern-Exchange" just several days ago. I have spoken with Jamie several times and would have to say he and his orginization is legit. He explained to me about the problem they are having with fraudulent pictures from their website. I would have to say, from my experience, that the "real" Southern-Exchange and Jamie are good peoples. My reccomendation is email them before you bid and make sure they are who they are..

Maybe, if you melt down those 18 sets of unsellable knock-off FPB's, you can make yourself a cool set of wheels with the metal. Then, you could take your "business" to ebay.

You guys are very funny.

DJ: I know a scam when I get e-mails for this person insiting I send him a money wire transer and not paypal. That the wheels (18" HRE) and tires (P-Zero) combo is a mere 1500 dollars shipped.

Anir: Actually I was in NYC. I'd save taxes and duties ordering it from there, rather than getting them shipped to Canada. Ok so it's been confirmed by Gert that these aren't his bars. I was lead to beleive they were so my BAD... Sorry.

But it fits on the car and it works. The person in Belgium that i purchased them from probably copied Gert's bar and thus scammed me. ANyhow it bar fits and works I don't care who it's made by. Nor do most of the people who got one from me.

Don't be mad that I came through with what I said I'd do (send the bar with tracking numbers).

thanks for your warm welcome to the board

Funny thing is that we NEVER sold a single FPB in Belgium. We sold it to every country in the world except for Ethiopia (no pun) and Belgium.
So you could never got the bar from Belgium.

I will tell you what happened :
You bought a bar from us, made cheap, poorly welded copies that don't look even close to the real thing and now you try to sell these by using my name to promote your product.
