Post dealer is only selling monroe shocks for the 993??

Ok, now that im 100% sure that my shocks are dead, i went to teh dealer to buy new shocks and i was surprised to hear that they are no longer selling boge shocks. The Sport suspension and the standard both use the same model monroe shocks. So whats the difference between the M030 and standard when they both use teh exact same Monroe shocks? I dont think i misunderstood anything from the guy, but i wanted to ask you guys first on what you think of teh Monroe shocks. Ive never seen anyone mention anything in here before about them so i ended up not buying them from the dealer and want to hear your opinions first. Will these monroe shocks be able to handle the H&R springs with no trouble? Im not looking for racing shocks. i would prefer factory shocks. From what i know, i thought monroe shocks were only for light trucks, american and japanese cars. Im no expert on shocks so correct me if im wrong. Thanks for the help.

Shant..

The M030 suspension had progressive springs and sits 3 cm lower.

Personally, I would just go with the ROW M030 setup with the stock shocks or the HD shocks if you want the budget approach. Go for the pss-9's for the more agressive setup.

I haven't heard of any dealer selling monroe shocks. I put those on my camry a few months ago!

You can sell your H&R springs on ebay or something like that.

Also, you've seen this page before?? http://p-car.com/susfaq.html

Jeff, thanks for the website. The shocks you mentioned looks like they are for racing. I pretty much want to stay stock as much as possible. The only reason why i went for H&r springs was to lower it for looks and slightly better performance. Thanks again

Shant,

If you want some stock shocks I have some sitting in the garage. They are the green bodied ones. They have 12K miles on them. I used them with H&R lower ing springs for about 3K miles of the 12K. Now I have PSS9's.

Let me know.

From what I understood, Monroe shocks are indeed listed on the Porsche parts list for the 993 as are the Boge (green bodied) shocks. When I was investigating the purchase of shocks from the authorised service centre here in Singapore, they provided me with parts numbers for both brands of shocks.

Kary, please email me at DoorsLedZepPinkF@aol.com I might buy your shocks and put the stock springs back on and be done with my goal to lower it. Seems like the only way i can use the H&R springs is by getting some really nice aftermarket shocks. But im not sure, ill have to look around and find where they sell these nice aftermarket shocks so i can use the lowering springs.
Thanks for the help

Check with Gert or some other P-car dealer that will order the ROW M030 shocks. They will work with your H&R springs. The ROW M030 shocks are not much more than the standard US M030 or standard shock.

Shant,

You can use those H&Rs with M030 shocks.

If Kary's schocks are sport ones, you'll be ok.

Has anyone used the monroe shocks in teh 993? I havent seen any posts about those shocks. Will they handle teh H&R springs?

Shant,
Again, I will repeat, just get new shocks from Gert. Bilstein HD's would be my suggestion, second option would be new stock dampers.

Used stock shocks are also probably worn out, don't waste your time (your time is worth something isn't it) and just get the right thing the first time.

My wife told me I needed to work on being more patient. This is a lot tougher than dealing with my 4 year old, actually it is tougher than dealing with a whole classroom of 4 year olds!

I just hope no one asks about tire pressures again, or I might just blow my top!

Just add about 10 quarts of Mobil One to make sure she is full and the oil level gauge will be the least of your worries.

See, that anger management class is paying off!
