My 993 came with an extra remote that the PO said would not tune to the car. It turns out that the remote is a 433 mHz model, and my car uses the 315 mHz model (these are the two flavors the 993 remote comes in).
Anyone happen to need the 433 mHz model, and have a 315 mHz one to trade?

I held my remotes up to a scanner that I programmed for 433 mHz then for 315 mHz. You can hear the remote 'chirp' when you push the button if the scanner is at the remote's frequency. The chirp is louder in 'AM' mode than 'FM' mode.
One other possible distinguishing factor is that my switchblade remote that runs on 433 mHz has "Robert Bosch RK114" on the back label, while the two 315 mHz remotes have "Robert Bosch RK116".
Gert Carnewal clued me into the two frequencies to check for.
