Picking up C4 on Saturday
I know you folks will understand. After lurking for over a year, and looking at way too many cars, I found the one 4 me. I'm picking up a black/black '96 C4 on Saturday. I can't sleep, eat or even concentrate at work. And I have a feeling once I get it, it will only get worse! Thanks for all of the advice. I'm sure I'll be an active member of the board. Yes registered, too.

Congratulations! Where in the world are you? You'll really enjoy(!) keeping a black car clean.

Yes -- in 96 the C4S (widebody) was available, as well as the narrowbody c4 and c2. However, the C2S was not available until 97. Narrowbody (svelte?) 993s without the basket-handle 3rd brake light are easily identified as 1996 models, as they were no longer offered in 97-98 (only widebodies during those years).

The narrow-body 993 was available in '97 and '98. The Carrera Coupe was available as a '97 model, and the Cab and Targa (both narrow) were available through the '98 model year.
The 3rd brake light changed to the '96-on style with '95 models built around March or April of '95. You can still identify a '95 by the exhaust tips -- the '95s are more oval than the later years, which became more squared-off. Unless the exhaust isn't stock, of course.

Congratulations!
I've got a 1995 C4 and I love it. It's been off the road for six weeks following a slight arguement with a kerb (only got the go ahead to have the repair done last week!) so I am missing mine a lot....
Enjoy it. The first drive will be unforgettable, especially if, like me, you park up to a kerb and find out how low that nose really is!
Cheers,
David
