Post My apologies to the board for previous comments...

In a post I made a while back, I stated that I thought Arctic Silver was rather dull compared to Polar Silver and a fellow Rennlister emailed me today to let me know that his reaction at the time was "Gee thanks for the insult" adding, "I'm sure other Arctic Silver owners had the same reaction". I certainly never meant to put down any other Rennlister's choice of car color, but in making that comment I guess I did just that. I put my foot in my mouth and I apologize.

He also mentioned in his email to me that in the latest post including the pics of all the 993's and that one 996 driving around coastal hwy in Ca., "I bashed 996's but apologized for doing so". In particular, I insulted his friend's car, the silver 996 that I saw in the picture, and this angered him. I didn't realize at the time that I was hurling an insult when I wrote what I did, but again, I didn't exercise the best judgement and am sorry for that innapropriate comment.

The last thing I wanted to do was to alienate any fellow Rennlisters here. I will take a good friends sage advice next time I post a reply or comment, which is "restraint of pen and tongue".

Tail between legs,
Steve

Steve,

Who wrote the e-mail? Jim Bob?

No wait, his car is still painted in primer.

Steve, I think that you are a very conscientious person for putting an apology on the board when you didn't have to.

But on another note, I have to say to the other person to lighten up. None of what anybody says on this board should be taken that seriously, especially subjective things such as color differences, 996 vs 993, white bread vs wheat, mac vs pc, boxers vs briefs, etc.

Of course, all of this is my opinion.

Steve,

You're entitled to your opinion. If we can't give opinions for fear of offending another, then this board wouldn't exist. Tip vs. 6 speed, DAS bar vs. Autopower, white vs. guards red, RSR vs. GLH, PSS-9 vs. H&R, supple leather vs. perforated leather, sunroof vs. targa, 17"cups vs. 18" Fikse, 1 degree negative camber vs. 0.5 degree negative camber, ad nauseum. How will it ever end? It won't. Are we going to reach a point where owners of Bridgestone S02's will overrun the hordes of Pirelli P Zero drivers?

Actually, I happen to have a polar silver car and I don't really agree with your assessment of arctic silver but I guess in saying this I run the risk of being run out of the polar silver club, yes?

What!
An air cooled 911 was seen fraternizing with a water pumper!

We need to start a policing organization to put an end to this stuff right NOW!

we should definitely start our own club so we don't have to be around "them"

we'll call it the NWPPCA NonWater Pumpin Porsche Club of America

For instance, if you had instead said "the owners of Artic Silver cars are rather dull...", there is a good chance you would have received nary a single e-mail.

As the owner of a Polar Silver cab, I have empirical data to support this.

Mike, your priceless!

Hey Steve,

I read your post (which was BOSS) and thought "oh yeah, he took a shot at the 996... tee-hee" (oh man, I laugh like a girl). But what the heck man, this is the 993 forum! I did not think it was out of line for us. As for the comment about silver, heck, I did not even see that one.

Anyhow, no need to tuck your tail, but nice of you to be concerned.

Man, I frequent some web forums that would eat some of those people who emailed alive. If I ever typed "tee-hee" on one of those forums they would hunt me down & pop a cap in me!

Truth is Steve your only half right. Polar silver 95 coupes that reside in south florida are the best. Can't wait for those private emails to roll in. Mike W - Polar Silver and proud of it!

Steve,

I thought that your comments were 'above board' (well, maybe the colour one was bound to get a reaction )

You're a true gentleman for posting such an apology. I'm sure most people think more highly of you if anything, after this storm in a teacup.

It's in the past, let's move on...

if someone got offended because their 996 was criticized or a friend's 996 was criticized, then maybe they should grow thicker skin or maybe look into the rational side of the argument.

pre 2002, the 996 does share the front end of the boxster. this is factual, not critique. that's bothersome to many who spend the premium on the 996. the rear end and sides are an aerodynamically cleaner design, more pure maybe, but lacking the curves of the 993. subjectively, many want curves on sports cars. big deal.

at the end of the day, the waterpumpers can always point to the faster nurburgring times and laugh in the end. i am not sure many rennlisters care what other people think about their cars. we DRIVE them.

If someone thinks Guards Red is dull color etc. and says so, I won't be sending any e-mails asking for apology, come on!

And if I say 996 is IMO not as good looking as 993, it's a$$ doesn't look as good as 993s or whatever, that is what I think, I'm not saying it to offend anyone but if someone get offended for comments like that, that's their problem.

Language here needs to be polite etc. and this is not place for name calling but please people, chill out!

Mike W,

You're saying silver looks better than G. red?!?

You better be sending me an apology e-mail right away!

Hey Steve,

As one former DHead to another, I agree it showed good taste to issue a public apology.

Unlike the taste you showed by making such a boring, conservative, lemming-like, every-other-Camry color choice like you did for your ragged out high-mileage beater.

Peace,
