installing sills the easy way
after reading through the archives, I just finished installing the stainless sills. I did the easy way which was to leave the double sided tape instead of taking them off with 3M remover or other solvent. The original double sided tape is only about 1/16" or even less maybe 1/32" so it almost makes no difference. Approximate time is about 15 minutes (less/more depending on how easy the rubber sill comes off) for each side.
1. put a flat screwdriver from the end side of rubber sill. protect the head of screwdriver with something (in my case I juste used a rag) from scratching the paint/metal underneath.
2. once you can grip the rubber sill, start pulling out slowly, and be able to pull off the whole thing without any problem.
3. clean any dust/dirt if any on the sill. don't put any dirt on the existing tape. I used little bit of "acetone" to clean without any problem (but don't use anything too strong as it may harm the paint or melt the tape).
4. new cills. leave the protection on, and remove the mask on the double sided tape, and align on the end side and firmly push the cill into (under) the rubber seal.
5. once it is set, remove the protection from the ss sill...voila!

You're killing me with your post. If only I had read this 3 months ago before I spent around 1.5 grueling hours on each sides trying to get every last bit of the horrible white tape up with a plastic putty knife. I was so pi$$ed when I was finished that it was so hard.
Oh well. Water under the bridge. Great pics you posted. I'd say thanks, but it didn't help me at all .
Your car looks much nicer now. Congrats on not getting bruises and blisters on your hands and fingers doing it "my way". I needed directions like your when I did mine!!!

hi,
thanks all. I wish I can do some more difficult mods like suspension and etc. right now, just doing these easy things.
and don't feel bad Steve, you know you did the perfect way!!! actually, after reading your post on the difficulties you had, I delayed it for awhile until some other people posted that they did without removing the double stick.
Sills were $300 from "departstop.com" (no affliation).

Glad you're happy with your results.
I hear we're getting more snow flurries/sleet tomorrow. I can't wait till Spring comes so I can consistently take the 911 out every day it's nice. You warm weather guys probably don't realize how great you have it!
