I also feel completely naked without the V1 - especially in a car that cops just love to hassle.

A radar detector helps, but there is no relaplacement for vigilance...

I researched quite a bit when I bought mine a couple of years ago. I think it was www.radartest.com or www.speedtest.com or something...basically, everyone agrees the V1 rocks, but it is about double the cost of the Bel 930 (now there is a 935) I bought, and though it doesn't have the arrows (which really would be nice), I spent the extra $200 on AutoX and track stuff The reports I read put it a very close second to the V1.

Oh, and I turn off the X band...it is easily 80% more quiet now, and other than an occasional Home Depot or Safeway setting it off, it is serious when it makes noise, and has saved me countless times, especially on ski trips to/from Tahoe. Keep in mind I'm also not a ricer nut ball, doing 120 or something, but I am above the legal limit.

Let me clarify... the CHP don't use radar/laser on the freeways in the Bay Area. (I've never seen it on any of 101, 880, 680,580 etc.) They do use radar in cities where speed limits are usually much lower... but I tend to be fairly diligent about not speeding there, I don't want to hit a kid or something. The freeway is where I catch myself getting carried away.

I respectfully differ on the CHP/radar/Bay Area comment...I see it all the time. However, you are correct, especially in regards to motorcycle cops pretending to be Jon and/or Ponch...they do sneak up and pace you without radar...they can be nasty little SOBs, sneaking up on you like that...
