Default Window tint removal

My cab was originally delivered in Florida and the po had installed a dark tint to the windows. Feel it's too much for the northern climates...thus, how to remove? Anyone do this before?

I have removed it and it is easy. Do on a warm sunny day with car in the sun. Spray a degreaser, like P21 on the film. Start, at corner and pull up up on a 45 degree angle. Use safety razor to get film that did not pull up. If glue remains on glass a good glass cleaner will remove it.

Have a gallon of bug and tar remover. My car was from FL and the state police in NH did not go for the blacked out look. There will be residual crap on your window. Try not to "roll" it up into your window wipe downs and side tracks because it will get stuck in there and drive you nuts!!

The best way is window cleaner with amonia. Spray it on and let it soak for ~15 minutes. Come back and it should come off pretty easy.

My car is also from FL and when registering in MD I had to get the state police to certify the tint. The trooper was so nice that he took time to clean my window to get the light transmission high enough and even tried multiple windows from different angles before he found one that was close enough to the limit to go ahead and pass the whole car. Proves the rule that not all cops are... well, you finish it. I'm not jinxing anything.

I need to do this also.
Will the amonia disturb the rear defroster wires?
Thanks,
Greg

Guys,

I was at a window tinting shop in Rochester this weeknd having the "Xpel" (stone guard) film applied to the bumper, headlight surrounds, mirrors and behind the wheels. I was watching the techs there apply window tint to many cars. One car had window tint that needed to be removed and they used a portable steamer, like you would use to soften wallpaper.

They said that it works great and won't cause a mess and possibly damage the interior like a solvent will. The tint peeled off like butter and they just used a razor blade to clean up.

Just thought I'd pass this tip on.
