Kary,

I'm also glad to hear that the damage is only cosmetic and not functional for you or your car. Body shops can do wonderful things with dinged up panels. Ask me how I know?

It's difficult to not feel angry about the behavior and logic of police departments at times. Ever notice how officers always run radar on the most beautiful, sunny, warm days with little traffic but are nowhere to be found on nasty, rainy, cold days? You can easily go 100 mph on a nasty day without much fear of hitting radar. Which situation is honestly more dangerous? If police departments and government honestly believes that speed kills, isn't this more true on a treacherous weather day?

Can't help but believe that speeding tickets represent an alternative form of taxation, when you encounter episodes like this. Just one more component of the death of common sense in this great country.

Hi Kary,

I am very sorry to hear about this. On another note, I'm glad that you are okay though. My younger brother was also hit by a drunken driver in Seattle a few years ago. My brother's car was totalled But the good thing was he was okay. After that incident, I'm always afraid whenever I learn about people got hit by drunken driver because you never know what could happen

I am thankful that you are okay and my best wishes for the speedy recovery of your 993

An uncle of mine was killed by a drunk driver almost 30 years ago. The drunk that killed him served less than a month in prison, at least the laws have changed towards harsher punishments nowadays. But it is still hard to believe the police didn't make a more concerted effort to stop this guy. Thankfully no one was hurt.

I was around the vicinity last night, Scripps Ranch and Mira Mesa.

Sorry to hear that. I can't believe SD cops didn't do anything.

Anir, you're absolutely right. There is a local road on which people are killed with frightening frequncy. It's a 55 mph road with numerous intersections. In the 29 years I've lived here, I've seen a total of ONE cop radaring cars on that road (I've seen many cops at the horrific accident scenes). This road intersects the Long Island Expressway, an Interstate highway. If you enter the much more heavily trafficked LIE from this other road, you will almost certainly see a radar trap within 5 minutes. The accident and fatality rate on the smaller road is many multiples of the LIE's rate. However, it's so much easier for the police to pick off speeders on the LIE that they totally ignore the road on which people die with alarming frequency. The notion that it's about safety rather than revenue has no credibility whatsoever, IMO.

I have called the police several times when I've seen an obvious drunk on the road. Only twice have they actually sent someone out to do something about it. Usually, I'm told there is little they can do . I explain that I can tell them exactly where the drunk driver is, all they have to do is send someone to the location, it's a certain arrest, yet they remain uninterested. It's astounding and very sad.

The behavior of the police themselves also makes me very angry. Just yesterday afternoon the following occurred: I was sitting at a red light in the center of town, in the middle of a line of about 5 cars. A cop that had been at the scene of a minor accident approached from behind, crossed the double yellow line and proceeded through the red light on the wrong side of the road! No lights, no sirens. He then pulled in to a parallel parking space about a 1/4 mile ahead and casually walked into a store . I'm sure this same individual wrote a pile of tickets to people going 70 mph on the multi-lane, limited-access, interstate LIE yesterday. This is just one example of how I've lost a lot of respect for the police over the last several years.

Sorry to hear this Kary.

Glad u r OK. A few weeks ago I had more or less the same experience with a citybus. The driver carshed my passengers door, front wing and part of the front bumper. I know how u feel.

My baby will be ready by the end of the week. The good part is that I swapped to a Turbo bumper instead of the "usual" one.

The accident really was pretty ****ty... could have shot the driver too. I was in a bad mooth for several days. My brain said that it is just a car and I was OK but my heart was dying.

Hope your lovely car will be fixed soon ... I can not wait to have mine back ... its been now more than 3 weeks ....

Good luck

Glad you and the car are ok - like Kim said - time for some Turbo S scooped rear 3/4 panels!

Did they ever apprehend the guy? He must've beem a real charmer to dead end himself and not call it quits.

You are safer on the oval at Fontana at speed than going to the market for quart of milk!

Kary,

I'm sorry to hear about your unfortunate accident. I am glad, however, that you weren't hurt. I hope this doesn't set you back too much. Take care.

Kary, glad to hear you're OK and the damage looks cosmetic. I, personally, avoid weekend nights out in my car due to the chance that something like this could happen. It also tends to draw attention (the bad kind) due to how loud it is.

Let us know how the "upgrades" go.

OK you wish to know why they didn't chase? Its the lawyers and lawsuits. The drunk had already shown he wasn't going to stop. What do you think would have happened should law enforcement chased him down? He would run at a high rate of speed maybe? Chances are he would cause what happened on the news tonight. Police chase a drunk driver who crashes into another car killing that driver. The drunk driver already has a prior convection of DUI. No license, no insurance and may be in the Country illegally. So if your a member of the surviving family who are you going to sue? Not the guy who was in wrong, he has no money, but the police department. The family is already saying that the police should not have chased the drunk driver.

As a former police officer I know what a difficult job it is. No matter what you do someone will sit back and say you did it wrong. Your always in a no win position. Which is why I am now an engineer.
