Default Two holes in the frunk

There are two holes in the bottom of the frunk of my 1996 C4 cab. They go right through the floor diagonal to the emergency tire. I’m not the first owner but the car is OEM down to the last washer. The holes look like a factory feature but I can’t see any reason for them. Any R-listers who can help with this? Are they indeed a factory feature?

They are drain holes, originally they had rubber inserts pushed into them but the inserts stick out under the car and are easily knocked out by road debris. I just taped them shut on my car with a little metal duct tape. If you put the original part in them you will probably lose them again. A better solution would be a rubber plug but to be truthful I rarely look under the spare tire so, for me, the tape is good to go and has been for years.

Here is the part.

No, but maybe some sleeping policemen stole them.

My sense of the drain plug's design intent is that they let moisture out from the frunk under the spare wheel.

Perhaps Porsche knew that there were ways that water (or brake fluid, or beer or wine) could pool down there, and they didn't want it sloshing around?

I had duct tape over them for years, maybe close to 20, but broke down and bought 2 of the plugs at the dealer for less than $10.00 I believe......

Looks better all around, and most importantly works better if you do get water in there.........you just press them in the hole

Or more importantly gas. If the tank were to rupture for some reason, I think you want that gas draining out of the frunk.

Before I bought a gel battery I ran my battery vent out one of these holes. Never liked the original vent location.
