Default Hood Sticker Doesn't Match PPS

Just received the Porsche Production Specification (PPS) for my '96 4S. Very cool. The document, formally known as a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), is an abbreviated build sheet for the car, including the list of optional equipment. I compared the PPS options to those specified on my hood sticker and was surprised to see quite a few discrepancies. For example, my car indeed has the factory phone option (aka "Bat phone") and that fact is appropriately depicted on the PPS. However, there is no corresponding code on the hood sticker. Likewise, I have hood sticker code 650 for the sun roof that the PPS fails to mention.

Here's the full mapping of my hood sticker codes to the equipment listed on the PPS. All PPS equipment corresponds to a code except the cellphone and the tires. All codes correspond to a description, except for 650 and 454 which should be listed on the PPS as "Sun-moon-roof" and "Automatic speed control".

Hood Sticker Code - PPS Equipment
CO2
- US Standard Emissions
982/939 - Supple Leather - L/R
329 - AM/FM Radio Cassette Player
490 - HiFi Sound Package w/ Speakers
445 - Rim Caps w/ Porsche Crest
692 - 6 Disc Remore CD Changer
437/438 - Power Seat Package
(not present on hood sticker) - Pirelli Tires
(not present on hood sticker) - Cellular Phone - Black Console
650 - (not present on PPS)
454 - (not present on PPS)

While I don’t know anything about the specific code and equipment issues you’re seeing, I can say that the PPS sheets, and COA before that, are known for discrepancies and errors.

Of the two PPS documents I’ve ordered, one was wildly incorrect about what a particular option code represented.
I called (or emailed) the issuing entity and asked for clarification and a corrected PPS. It was fairly easy to set straight.

The PPS is a joke and known for many discrepancies.

I made them aware of the discrepancies on mine and, at my insistence, they sent me a corrected one. What's that book title? Oh, yes: "Excellence was expected" ("was" being past tense).

Porsche isn't Porsche anymore. It's VW. VW doesn't really care about what happened before they owned Porsche, and this is a great example.

Could the discrepancy be one document only includes car specific options?
Where the other includes all the attributes on the build sheet from the factory.including standard features.
For example, the sunroof may have been standard equipment and so doesn't show up as an option on the sticker. However, at the factory, the car is coded to include it on an internal build list.
Also, common upgrades such as wheels or audio could have been options added at the dealer to a car in inventory for a customer. In my case, the 18" wheels were added in pen to the window sticker by the dealer.

I don't understand this "hood sticker" vs "PPS" conversation. You have the car. If you want to know what is on the car..... take a look at it.

That’s like saying listen to the album but don’t ever look up the lyrics. To me, diving deep is part of the fun.

COA has known to be inaccurate if you do a quick search.
