Question Convertible top replacement any other than factory?

I'm looking for a replacement top for my 993,just need the outer top(black) not the headliner Would like to avoid a dealer top way too much money, anyone out there know where to get a quality replacement?
Thanks in advance!

I once used world upholstery and purchased their German fabric. Get samples of the color you need before any purchase.
http://www.worlduph.com/

For installers, they have a recommended list. I had visited/called a couple and determined their experience with Porsche's. You may even be able to ask your dealer who they sub their jobs too.

Mo,
I went to worlduph.com and they sell the German fabric top for somewhere $1295. Anyway, when i called one of the installers on their list, he said they have their own top (German fabric), too and it's made from a well know company whose name is something like Robin....
The whole job including material was quoted for $1600.
Do you know anything about Robin...tops?
thx

In fact, I would recommend you NOT buy the Porsche OEM replacement top. I recently replaced the top on my '95 993 and my first instinct was to buy OEM.

What I found was that Porsche designed the top w/out the rear plastic window. Requires a special tool to insert the window. Guess what, only dealers have the tool!

In my case, the in-town dealer didn't bother to buy one. They told me they could "rent" the insert tool from Porsche for $250 and delivery costs. Of course, I'd be picking up that tab.

No thanks. The aftermarket top I purchased looks just as good as OEM and came with the window already installed!

Timg,
Just where did you get your replacement top?
And who installed it?
Thanks,
David.

I too need a new top as I have 115k miles on my 1995 and still have the original top in place. Problem is it leaks a ton of rain and the area where most of the rian leaks in is the glued areas that hold the plastic window in place. That glue dries out and water leaks past the once glued area(s) and down past the Cab top motors and under the rear seating carpet and finds its way to the rear footwell area and then travels under the DME "brain" and into the driver footwell area. I like the 964 method better which stichces the rear window plastic in place.

Wow, a post that is still alive a year later!!
Check the post date of the orginal... by the way I bought my top last year from www.worlduph.com It is ok but does not have the factory fit. Could be the place that did the installation
