Don Rosen 95 Coupe - $33k thoughts?
Hey guys,
So I'm getting close to pulling the trigger and I just saw an ad from Don Rosen outside philly.
'95 coupe with 61k on the meter for $33k asking.
What do you thinks?
I also have another question as I'll be driving this car a lot, and my wife is pregnant...thoughts on a car seat?
Thanks in advance...
PK

I didn't see it on their website. What are the specs., options, condition? Warranty? I'd haggle them down a ways, unless it's just exactly what you want and perfect.

Waaaaay too expensive. I looked at cars at Don Rosen and almost always found them asking above market. There'll be others. I could swing by tomorrow to check it out (they're just 10 minutes away from me) but unless they knock it down by a few grand, I wouldn't bother.

I've heard their rep about BMW service
It's just your basic coupe...not much listed

Their BMW service rep is horrible so I would expect the same.
I have been introduced to a co-workers relative that has a wholesale auction license. So I'm trying to go through him vs. the local dealers. I just stopped by Brandywine (I work 2 minutes away) and they avoided the "can I drive a 996" when I told him that I was looking at 993's but wanted to compare it to a 996. O'well...

Any thoughts on a baby seat? I know it sounds funny but that's deal with my wife...got to be able to pick the baby up when she can't.

I would have to agree that it sounds high. I would not want to buy a pre-owned Porsche from a dealer. I like to meet the PO, try to get a sense of how the car was looked after. Yes I know that many cars this age have had a few PO's but think of it this way. If the current owner (soon to be PO) is meticulaiuos he probably had the same standards when he purchased the car. I know there are probably many people who have had good experiences and got good deals from dealers but this is just how I feel. When I bought my car it had 3 PO's but I got the paper trail all the way back to day one including cancelled checks, phone numbers and addresses of the PO's.

Don't buy from a dealer -- why pay the extra $$$. Take your time and buy from a private party -- better deal and you get to talk to the guy or gal and determine how they took care of the car. That can be worth big $$ in the long run.

My opinion on Don Rosen is that his asking prices are reasonable for cars in excellent condition. However, most cars I've seen there have not been in excellent condition...
I bought my '95 Certified from a Porsche dealer, and I managed to find the PO before I took delivery. The only reason to buy from a Porsche dealer, IMO, is to get the Certification and the warranty that goes with it. Unfortunately, a '95 is no longer young enough to be Certified.

I bought my car from a dealer because the price was right on the money and Rennlisters checked it out for me and I DID talk to the previous owner through the service receipts. It's not the best way to buy, but it can work out great sometimes.
I'm surprised there is no pic on their website, just the general info.
Good luck,
Steve

Thanks for the tips everyone. I might drive by tomorrow morning to look, just to look, if I don't have anything else going on. I'm going to try looking with a friend from work who has access to a wholesale auction person. The only problem with that is they come accross more lease return 996's than 993's. But, if I can save a lot of $$ to spend towards mods, it might be worth going that route for now...
I really, really want an S, but they are holding their value it seems better than most.
I'll let you know what happens.
BTW...Rezal, do you work or live on the mainline? I work in Newtown Square.
Thanks again - PK

If you really, really want the "S", I would stretch UP to the "S" model if you can ($$$). You can find a higher mileage "S" for mid to high 30's. That's what I did - got a higher mile car (59k mi) for kind of cheap last January a year ago. I really wanted the "S", with the Targa a very close second.
If you want the "S" and buy a regular C2 to save some money, you'll probably regret it and always lust after the car you really wanted to begin with.
Just a thought.
Steve
(PS - don't do this to yourself...get the S if that's what you want - you only go around once)
