Default Would you buy again a 993?

No question that 993 is one of the coolest car on the planet. Although these cars are at least 22-23 years old and I am sure even the best well taken cars have constantly here and there some issues. As a current 2014 981 owner, I am currently tempted to buy a 96 carrera cabriolet. My biggest fear is that such an old car can become a never ending money eater. Even with my 5 years old boxster, I already had cracked and leaking hoses, don't wanted to know how much issues I would potentially face owning a 23 years old car. Maybe I am over dramatizing but I think it is not unrealistic to have an average maintenance cost of 3-4k per year for a 993. My question to those of you who own a 993, how is your car in regards of running cost and if you would buy again, would you go again for a 993? thank you in advance.

Buy a coupe not a cab as cab roof maintenance is expensive....having a yearly budget if you drive around 3-5k miles a year is important and your range is right....lots of rubber gaskets for example are now at an age for replacement and not inexpensive to replace with labor costs..

Thank you. The car I have found is probably one of the most attractive 993 offers I have ever seen: https://www.rusnakpasadenaporsche.co...ca299xts340854

Has low mileage, clean service history and looks really nice. I am not sure if I can find a similar coupe for this price.

Price is lower because it's a tiptronic transmission. If that's what you're looking for, great!

Yes...5 times!
If you don’t wrench, your initial cost to sort the car may be a few grand. But annual maintenance cost is no where near 3-4K! Where we all get in trouble is the mods such as wheels, sport seats, Fister exhaust, etc...

Yep, $3K to $4K per year for maintenance costs is incredibly high for a 993 used as a lightly driven second or third car.

And, yes, I did buy another 993. Nothing else in the P-car world interested me for how I was going to use it.

“Always serviced by a Porsche dealership”

Use that in your negotiations to drive down the price.

Would I buy another 993? If I had the room and found another that checked all my "boxes", you bet! If the Tip Cab trips your "trigger", then buy it but don't just because it's an attractive price. Buy a car that makes you want to go out (or down) to the garage and admire it, then go for a drive.

I don't plan to sell my 993 any time soon, so I haven't had to ponder the question of "would I buy another one?".

You need to be pro-active with maintenance, but these are simple cars and very reliable once you get them sorted out.

But, honestly, if you're worried about age related issues on a 2014 model year car, then these cars aren't for you...get something with a warranty and don't fret it.

My wife and I love our 993 so much that she shocked me by sending me a link to one for sale recently asking if we should get her one for her own enjoyment.

I love mine and the only thing I regret is not buying it now instead of over three years ago. The market is cooled off so I would pay less for the car I bought!
