Any recommendations on local porsche shops
I need a good local shop for odd and ends on my 993. I do all my own work, but dont know nearly as mush as I should. A good local shop in NY would be beneficial.
I am basically asking for recommendations
Thanks

They're in Elmsford, right off I287. Cheech is the guy to ask for.

Don't know from personal experience but I did almost buy a very well looked after 95 C2 in Bronxville, NY. The owner had high marks for Cheech. Of course you never forget a name like that. They say he is a smokin' good mechanic. Sorry couldn't resist.

Are these dealerships? I usually frown upon with dealerships and service. Its just a little quirk I have with them.
Where is Rennwerke Porsche located? I cant find them in the yellowpages.
Is this a small specialized shop? I am looking to do my tuneup. Plugs and distributor belt rebuild.
Thanks

They're in Elmsford, NY off Rte. 9a - look for the gas station with the HUGE lumberjack out front he's behind there. Personally, I haven't had great luck with Cheech, when I mentioned PSS9's he didn't know what I was talking about - you might want to try De Man Motorsport in Nyack.
Cheech's mechanics are not racers - they are mechanics - Rick's team goes racing most weekends and know how to sort out these cars from a performance standpoint.
Just my $.02

There's a bunch of area race shops - without getting too specific - that, when the going gets tough, bring their cars to Cheech. (I've witnessed it myself.)
I'm surprised about the PSS9 incident, as I've seen PSS9s being installed there too...
But I digress.
The best part is Rennwerke is not a dealership...It's an independent shop, and they've treated me and my cars well.
Garychios, If you can't find it, their tel. no. is (914) 592-4006

Autosport Designs in Huntington Station (LI) -- they are very knowledgeable and do excellent work. They are not cheap, however.
Formula Motorsports is in Queens. Though I have no personal experience with them (nor do I recall which town they're in), I've heard good things. They're close to NYC.

Hi, I was wondering if you have a 993.
I just was hoping I can hear your car running to determine if mine is making out of the ordinary engine sounds. I use to live in Rego Park near Fleet street, so I can come by you if you like. I currently live in Great Neck. Let me know if this is not too much trouble. I am trying to see if a particualr sound is unique to my car or to all 993's.
Thanks

i think it is a DISASTER to find a good shop in the nyc area.
Seems few places know lots about both performance as well as being able to be attentive to the routine maintance and have a genuine interest in looking after your car (and you).
Seems the nice mechanics dont know enough how to do more performance type stuff and the race shops are too busy to really care about looking after your car and are too busy tuning a 1000hp motor to talk to you beyond getting your credit card.
Anyone have a ViperBob type in the area???

I'm looking for a reasonably priced reliable shop as well. I don't really need anything done at this moment {{knock on wood}}, but always good to have a good repore(sp) with one before something really breaks.
The only maintenance I have done since I got my car was an oil change @ Formula One. Mark is the owner and is a nice guy. I do see how some ppl find him a bit pretentious. He did the work himself and was flexible in time and the price was reasonable. The only thing is he used Quaker State Syn instead of Mobil 1, which I mistakenly assumed he used. Not sure if I should go back there and bring my own oil. Don't really want to insult the guy. What do you guys think?
