Just got the car back and ended up doing the 60k major service. Good thing I did. Dirty air filter, original plugs (fouled), and damaged plug wire on cylinder #1. Gonna take the car out and run it hard for some time. It already is running much better. Will keep you posted

Old post but this happened to me today- after I disconnected the battery to work on the stereo for a while. Ran the car for about 30 minutes- and it stopped. Wondering if it's something to do with the voltage to the DME after you disconnect/ reconnect a battery. Weird.

This is a common 993 occurrence. The ECU needs to learn throttle position and when a battery is disconnected for a period of time the learning is lost and needs to relearn. It should right itself after a couple days or a few miles.

As Meenrod said, this is the ecu relearning. Expect similar behavior every time you disconnect the battery. Not a concern.

Nope, not battery relearn!
A 98 should not do this even with a light flywheel! U likely have bad ignition system or a vacuum leak on that car. Guarantee bet, put new quality ignition wires and plus and a **** load of $$$$ she will be running just fine 🙂

This. Observed same issue with idle/stalling on my test drive after completing Tore headlight upgrade (battery disconnected). On my next drive all seemed back to normal.

Awesome info in this thread. I just reconnected my battery after winter storage and it stalled at the exact same place it stalled last spring. Happened a couple of times on the drive when coasting to a stop. Guess I’ll just let it run for 15 min.
