Brilliant guide - just one thing I would add for both parties (& this applies to buying/selling houses or anything of real value).

Buy or sell at a price you are happy with. IF you want £60k, and some guy offers it, don't suddenly think "..hmm, if he offered £60k straight away, maybe I could get £65 if I hold out for another buyer..."

Similarly, if you are happy to pay £60k for something, don't try to knock it down to £55 k just because you like to haggle!

Both parties should be able to walk away happy, not thinking " I should have got £5k more/should have paid £5k less...."

Just my 0.02c (or 0.01c if you want to haggle!!)

As I am currently SELLING a 993 I have to give kudos to this post. Good stuff. Can we also throw in there "You get what you pay for"?? I have found this to be so true having purchased 3 previously owned Porsches and in process of moving to a possible 4th. <img src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" border="0" alt="[bigbye]" />

How about adding.....Sellers, please correctly identify the options on your car. If it doesn't have M030, LSD/ABD or Big Red Brembos then don't say that it does. Also, MINT does not include 46 chips on your front bumper.

Fair enough DC. My 993 comes with rock chips - I would guesstimate about 43 though....

I would classify 43 as very good. Under 25 is excellent...

I've seen car that look like they drove head-on into multiple shotgun blasts and the owners shrug it off as "normal".

I do agree with the comment that there is nothing wrong with re-painting the front bumper...as long as you disclose the fact that it has been painted.

Then let me ask your opinion on this. I avoided repainting the front bumper as I was afraid a prospective buyer would be wary of the word "repaint" itself. I figured it would be better to say "no paintwork" than "repaint". I know you just went through an exhaustive purchasing process so what do you think?

IMO, I would not do anything yet. I would get a written estimate and sell the car assuming that you were going to cover the repaint. Offer this to the buyer and they will appreciate your honest and attention to detail.

One thing I hate is when used cars are advertized with 'options' that are actually standard equipment. If the car does not have many options, dont list the standard equipment!!

Awesome post! Great reminder and reality check for everyone.

I am not actively selling my c4s, but I have had a couple people inquire and the respray is a tough call. On one hand, if it's to someone who appreciates that the car has actually been driven then a respray is probably not needed.

However, it seems like the majority are overly concerned with the rock chips and not the mechanicals. Go to any lot and you see a ton of cars detailed to the max with obvious paint touch ups. Does the general public care? No way, but Porsche people freak at the thought of "paintwork".

It's probably another topic, but there are good points on both sides.

Also, I'd like to add that having a good attitude should be a must for both buyer and seller. I have been very fortunate in selling and buying. I think a lot of it had to do with attitude and getting to know the people a little before the transactions ever took place.

thanks for a great post!
