930 is an appropriate upgrade from the 993 imho Now all you need is:

shocks, sways, 1 bar spring, tial WG, intercooler, K27 hybrid, lighten up the interior a bit, and a steady supply of rear tires to keep that 400+bhp on the ground !!

Al -

I see this thread has been resurrected--do you still have the turbo 930 (I know you currently have at least a GR 993)?? A friend of mine that I work with has a 89 Turbo Cab.

Congrats; hope you can put up with the increased "spartan-ness". Namely (based on comparing my 993 to my old '84 Turbo-Look Carrera):

- non-power steering more sensitive to bump steer and a real workout in tight-cornered roads (and in a slalom at an autocross)
- harsher suspension
- rougher shifting tranny
- poorer A/C (and the 993 is nothing to brag about)
- joys of having to adjust valves

However, what I really have missed on my old Turbo-Look Carrera (same body/chassis as 930 but Carrera engine & tranny) are the brakes. The 930 brakes were the best on earth - could easily otbrake the 993 and the pedal feel was fantastic (rock solid pedal, never been able to match it on the 993). I would imagine you've noticed this too.

Good luck and have fun!

Nice looking car . . . I love the lines on the 930. Great color too . . . perhaps I'm biased?

Reminds me of the SC my uncle once had with 930 brakes - never have I driven a car that inspired so much confidence under braking!! Pedal feel was incredible.

I too miss the brutal "hit" of my 930 when the turbo spooled up (Blu 997). The car's are really great weekend car's, something you don't have to live with on a daily basis but can enjoy when you have time. Enjoy, I know you will !

I did the same thing and enjoy the looks, the older details and power delivery of the turbo. It has the mechanical feel I was looking for from my fun car. Mine is an '89 with G50 five-speed and it's one of my favorite aspects of the car. It is precise with just the right amount of "snick".

On the other hand, as Ray stated, 16-year old AC is terrible. It was tolerable two months ago when I had it serviced, but now there is no more cool. I've done a lot of research and my first "mod" will be to overhaul the AC with new "barrier"hoses and high-efficiency evaporator and condensers. Not cheap, but in Dallas this is a very important mod.

Beautiful car. I think the 993 Turbo may be the best of both worlds -- agressive looking like the 930 and really, really fast.
The Weather is wonderful in Southern Michigan.

Actually the black 930 is no longer with me. Originally I bought the black 930 to replace the polar silver 993 I sold to Brendan , a fellow rennlister. The 930 is a very nice car, but as mentioned before. It is not a car I wanted to use all the time. Great for weekend runs. I sold it last year in august and replaced it with a gray 89' 944 turbo S. Again, I kept looking for a 993. I found my current 993 3 months ago. A 95' one owner with 19k miles in excellent condition. It already had a Fab speed muffler system, upgraded chip, supercup airbox lid and stereo system. Needles to say, I purchased the 993 and sold the Turbo S. I have upgraded my 993 with a few items:
Turbo S front bumper, original TT tail, euro side skirts, GT3 sport seats,GT3 shifter, aluminum pedals, cargraphic strut bar, al gauge rings, Ruf 18" wheels. I am waiting to install a PSS9 and M030 sway bars.

Al- the car looks great with the black Ruf wheels. Did you order the PSS9s?
