Size difference between sport seats and pole postions?
I guess I'm on a few fellas ignore list so maybe I won't get some advice from someone who may know. Such is life. Anyway, I'd like to sell my sport seats as I really don't fit well in them. I know they are worth quite a bit so I figure I could sell them and some better seats for me and some other goodies. They are too narrow in the backrest for me and too high that my hair rubs on the headliner. I'm looking at some Recaro Pole Positions online and was wondering if any of you have experience with them and the fitment compared to the sport seats.
I apologize profusely if I offended anyone with my previous avatar. I personally am not easily offended and I did not take into consideration that there may be some on this board who do not like bat boy.
I can't address the sport seat side of the issue, but I have PPs in my 964 and like them a lot. You can mount the PPs on sliders and still have them lower than a stock seat. You really should try to sit in one to ensure that you are comfortable in it.
Thanks Tom. I'm going to sit in a SPG ? today. Can't find a PP local to sit in so I figure I can get an indication by sitting in this other seat as it supposed to be 1 1/2 in. narrower.
I find the Pole Positions very comfy for my ample derriere. A bit wider than Sparco Evo 2 - definitely wider and deeper than sport seats (but no recline).
I checked out that SPG. Its too narrow for me. It's 2 1/2 inches narrower than the PP's. Thats probably all I would need but I just need to find a local source to sit in one.
Well, the no recline doesn't bother me, but my situation in not normal. I have neither rear seats nor rear storage behind the front seats (just a verticle aluminum firewall and lexan window). You can mount the seats at any angle you choose, but it stays there unless you remount it in different holes in the side mounts (takes about 10 minutes). Not recommended for a daily driver, unless you're really committed, but they sure are comfy and supportive (I use velcro-attached lumbar and thigh supports from some Momo seats which improve things even more).
Just noticed that there for 996. I'm using the Momo aluminum side mounts in my 911 and they work great, even though they're for a Momo seat (I think they're fairly standard for side mounts).
I had the factory Sport Seats on the silver car and now I am using the Recaro Pole Position seats on the grey car.
I prefer the Pole Positions than the sport seats because:
- it feels more snug
- better driving position
- lighter?
- i don't need to worry about adjusting the seats setting
- and interestingly I found it to be more comfortable hehehe
I'm just in the process of buying a car with SPGs in it and am going to replace them with Pole Positions. I was able to squeeze in and out of the SPGs but they would have been awful for me to live with. I found the local distributors for Recaro on the national website, called them until I found one with Pole Positions for me to try on, and had a nice chat with the proprietor while I sat in one of his seats for a half hour or so.
But you definitely want to try the fit first. I also tried the Sparco Evo and Evo 2 and wouldn't have been happy with them. J

Thank you for all of the responses. I looked up the Recaro website and called all the local dealers. No one has them.
Pin, Lemme get this straight then. More snug? Do the dimensions of both the seat and backrest feel bigger than the SS's? In the SS's I feel like my back is resting on top of the seat. Pressure points in the middle of my shoulder blades.
I just installed the PP seats with the Recaro side mounts and sliders a couple weeks ago and have to second everyone else's opinions - they are great! I don't agree that they cause you to sit up too straight because for me, set on the lowest hole (of 2) in the back and the lowest hole in the fron (of 3) they are pretty well reclined for me. There are 2 additional notches to make them recline even more if desired.
I also find them very comfortable and supportive. Try to find a pair to sit in and make sure you will like them. I bought them without trying them, but had sat in the Sparco Evo2 and believe the PP are more reclined and a little bigger in the seat, but the measurements are virtually the same.
