Default Transmission Oil question

Hi all,
Does the GT2 have LSD? I’ve been having problem getting into 1st and 2nd. I did the search and seems like a lot of people solved the problem with an oil change with PTX or Motul. If I go with Motul which version should I use? LS or non LS?
Thx

How many miles on your car and how often have you replaced the gear lubricant in the past?

under 30,000km. It is possible the gear lube was never changed.

Quite possible! Any records from previous owner? Original GT2 from the factory or replica? 173 993 real GT2s were produced Worldwide.

My brother bought the car brand new from Porsche, the car was hardly driven for the pass 10-15 years. I want to use it more often now.
I am trying to find out more detail information about this car, does it have differential? does it share the same gearbox, suspensions, differentials... with other 993 variants? did the x50 upgrade cover the GT2? because I remember the dealer installing some upgrades years back.

With your very low miles on the odometer just changing the gear lubricant should sort out any shifting issues. If your vehicle had 80K+ miles on it worn synchro rings could be discussed.
Also, a very low miles transmission such as yours is much more compliant to slight variations in viscosities between different brands of gear lubricant so you should have good experience with several brands that will be suggested here. I seem to remember Delvac was used at my last gear lubricant change.
My understanding is that the synchro engagement teeth on a factory GT-2 are steel VS a bronze /brass alloy so may have different wear characteristics or feel. Not sure about the limited-slip diff, and its impact on gear lubricant selection. I would think any dealer can tell you if your car came with a limited-slip diff and if a different gear oil is specified vs a stock Carrera. Here in the US GT-2 were never sold so there is little discussion of them.

Options sticker under the bonnet.
Standard Codes are 220 - LSD
Maybe that helps but if not there could be standard equipment.
Devlac is for Race Temps
I would as Andy recommended - call the dealer.
I would buy Porsche oil > aka Helix or Spirax Shell but as andy said we are not sure as thats a rare car here

I have the ABD lights in the dash so I assume no mechanical LSD. however, I couldn’t get it to light up even when I tried to spin the rear wheels on wet road.

I use Shell Spirax for transmission oil !!
i recently installed an original Porsche Motorsport (option 220) Limited Slip Differential on my 1995 Porsche 993 Carrera 2 manual G50/21 gearbox.
Initially I used Shell Spirax S5 AXME but this oil was WRONG (it was for light trucks !!!)
For high performance cars with LSD the correct specification is Shell Spirax S5 ATE !!!!!!
Once I used this, the shifts became extra smooth and the LSD engages and works as it should !! Love it !!!

I am a firm believer in PTX after it instantly and completely eliminated a notchy 3rd gear up-shift. This was after trying the Porsche Shell factory fill, normal available Mobile 1, & and redline NS. Yes, I changed the oil 4 times in 2 years.

Not saying that the others mentioned here don't work great. Just my experience.

Option M220 has 2 parts
1)LSD
2)ABD

Usually a diff lube that is labeled for LS has modifiers that reduce friction, for street use that may or may not be what you want to have. For track use you want all the friction that the LSD plates can provide

My guess is that the LSD used is the same GKN 40/65 as was used in the RS cars but there is an outside chance that it has the GKN 22/40 from the regular turbos

For street use PTX for track Delvac

@Raywong...are you certain you have a real 993 GT2? If so, are you aware that car could be worth more than $1 million? Give careful thought to how much public road use you expose such a rare and collectible machine.

here’s the plate under the hood. does it indicate the LSD options?

@Bill Verburg I thought the ABD use only an open diff and the brake disc for fiction, it has LSD too?
PTX is for non LSD only, is that correct?

The 392 in the serial number should be for a GT2

I assume ABD/LSD were standard on the GT2, not an option, so no option code. 573 is for A/C, 651 electric windows

As Bill recommended use PTX for street use, does not matter whether LSD or not. Delvac for track use.

Unless you have detailed records on the car I would change all fluids before use. It's not just a mileage issue, it's an age issue. The car likely needs a number of other items as well unless properly serviced.

Assume you have a shop that you REALLY trust in HK.

I am sure everyone would like to see more pictures! Wonderful car...take care of it.
