Something screwy. I have US M030 shocks/sway bars with Euro springs on my '95 993 C2. Following is what I've gotten for rear tire wear:
original (Yokohama?) 12K miles
BFG Comp T/A 20K miles
Brigestone RE730 13K miles (twice)
Am now running Bridgestone RE750; very happy with them.
RE alignment: have brought a copy of the factory alignment specs into the shop and told them to align to these specs.

I have my alignment done by Bill Braucksick, at performance alignment.
I also have my tires with alittle more Negitive Camber for better handling in my 944 I still manage 10k between tire changes. Here is a picture of my fully warn out Dunlop SP5000 Sports.. (BEST TIRES EVER)
Not for the 56kers!

Car is aligned to factory specs (within tolerances, allowing for corner balance)...talked to Bridgestone this morning (at the suggestion of Tirerack), they think it could be a bad lot of tires -- I'm taking them into a local store for them to diagnose for sure.

my first rear set of S-03's lasted 10.5Kmi. they have another 2.5Kmi. left but I made a 5Kmi trip to LA this past summer so I replaced early. My new set has 10.5Kmi now...and @ the current rate of wear I'm expecting 17-18Kmi. The rears also have two autocross days w/ 2 drivers each time. BTW my fornts are on track to last 28Kmi....Of course this calculus might be false but it does present a ballpark experience.

Looks more like high pressure to me. From what I can tell in the pictures, it's the wear bars in the two center grooves that are flush w. the tread. The outer two grooves look like the wear bars aren't yet flush w. the tread.
I don't know the difference between the depth of the inner & outer grooves, whether they're significant enough to account for the majority of the accelerated wear. But biasing the pressure & wear on the center portion of the tread face ought to account for at least some of the accelerated wear.
I don't know what pressure the tires have been run at, either, so whether what appears to be wear more in the center was caused by pressure or tire defects is up to somebody else...

Tire pressures are carefully kept at 34 front, 36 rear...as per the board consensus... The pictures don't really do it justice, the center looks more worn than the edges in them. However, it's worn fairly even across the tread < 1mm difference.

As another data point I have 6500 miles on the SO-3s with mostly highway (including a fun filled high speed drive to and in Montana). I run 34/36 psi and have only one DE under my belt with these tires. They still look like they another 5000 on them.
The sad thing is I had them put on on Sept 11....yeah, that day. I just don't drive enough!!!!! Dang, too much day job work and other "work" after work and on the weekends. Gotta get these projects finished and not start any new ones.
Good luck figuring it out!
