Need advice [URGENT]
Hi Guys,
I need to move my car from San Francisco to Austin (Texas). Based on searching the archives people seemed to have had good experiences with Intercity so I called them about a month ago and scheduled a pick up. I spoke with Mike in dispatch. He originally committed to pick it up during the week of Jan 20th. Today I called him to get a status update and he wanted to push the pick up date to Jan 28th because of "mechanical problems and other issues". I'm OK with that but getting concerned about a few things -
1. My parking runs out in the near future. I asked my apartment company to let me continue using my parking spot and they agreed but if they lease the apartment I'll need to move (god bless the soft leasing market in SF).
2. I'm less than satisfied with the level of responsiveness from Intercity. They never return calls or proactively inform me of changes. Every time I call the guy is "working on my order". He comes across as a typical sales guy and is always in a hurry to get off the phone. Even after I explained my parking predicament and my overall concern the level of communication remains underwhelming.
I'd love advice on a few options -
1. What experiences have people had with Intercity? Is there someone else at the company that I should be talking with? Should I still ship through them or is the current lack of services indicative of things to come?
2. What alternatives would you suggest to moving the car at short notice? One option is to fly back to SF and just drive it down. It is a long haul but at least I'll be in control....
Many thanks,
Rohan

Three Wheelin'
I had very good service from Intercity. I was able to call them while the car was in route from CA and get updates as to what state the truck was in and the expected delv.time/date. The driver called me the day before and told me what time he would be there. That was about 3 years ago so things may have changed. Based on my exp. I would recommend them.

Rohan...
I wouldn't mind taking a road trip to Austin!!!
Seriously though, if you reimburse me for my flight back to SF, hotels, etc, it might work out. Let me know if you are interested.. It sounds like it would be a fun trip.

All of y'all are wrong. Do not trust the car to a common carrier. I'll drive it here for you, and help prevent that pesky carbon buildup as well. I am a giver.

I've used them a bunch....but recently they seem to have all the business they can handle and their rates went up....they do a great job
However, try Horseless Carriage....same great service and their cost is about the same
Both are used by PCNA for the high dollar Porsches, i.e. GT2 etc

I just booked with Intercity to bring my newly acquired 993 from Atlanta to the Bay Area. Pickup is set for next week in Atlanta on Tuesday or Wednesday. Will advise as it goes.

workitjr,
I hope my car comes with yours. I am waiting on a '97 993tt coming from New Hampshire to the Bay Area. Intercity is booked solid because of the Barrett Jackson auction. Hundreds of cars there and then out. There are only a few official carriers, so it will take them a couple of weeks to get back to normal.
Good luck

I must be the only one here who has used Reliable Carriers. Fl to CA in 4 days. Lowest quote from among 5 covered carriers with positive reviews. Charlie was friendly and honest. Actually picked up and delivered car faster than desired because the Alfa sale was still pending and taking up a valuable parking space. I believe that they have a contract with Chyrsler to transport Prowlers to the shows. Intercity quoted me $400 more and 2-3weeks until pickup. They actually advised me to call Reliable when I balked at the long delay.
Thank you Intercity!

Cross my fingers...I have Intercity picking up my "new" 993 on Monday! They seemed very friendly and all, not exactly cheap but hey they have good rep and they promised my car will be in Houston by Friday.
If you can ( I couldn't) drive your car and make some nice stops on the way. This country is really so beautiful with so many unexpected and spectacular scenery to see.

I used Passport Transport (see, www.passporttransport.com) recently to move a car across the country. They did a great job. They were bought a few years a ago by Fed Ex - so you have a major company backing them.
Let me suggest that, whomever you use, you be patient. From what I saw, these big companies. like Passport and Inter-City have a big fleet of trucks around the country that carry 6 cars in an enclosed trailer. And there seems to be no shortage of cars being moved around the country every day of the week. These carriers pick up and deliver along the way of the intended route. Then, they get diverted, if they have space, pick up cars that are generally in the area (ie., same ort neighboring state) and headed generally where the original route was slated. Added to all that zig-zagging around, is that customers may not be ready on time for pick up or delivery. I believe this is why they sometimes cannot stick to the initially scheduled pick-up date and they give a 10 day or so window of time when the delivery will occur on a coast to coast run.
My car was picked up a few days late from the North East; they truck went to PA, MO, ID, CO, and then several cites in CA before getting down to me in LA. It all worked out fine.
By the way, the driver told me he drives 120,000 miles a year and has been doing this work for 20+ years. Nice experience.
Good luck, Mark
