Default 993 Window spoiler

Was the rear window spoiler fitted from factory? As I was looking at a 993 today with a view to buying and it doesn't have one? Its has just has a complete strip down ands respray, wondering whether they accidentally left it off?

The earlier ones had the "towel bar" spoilers, then they were replaced with upper rear window valance.

What year 993 are you looking around? For 95 they had what people call a "basket handle" mounted just below the rear window. A lot of people don't like them and it may have been deleted seeing as it was getting a respray.

1994. I'm referring to the valance that sometimes housed a third rear brake light...

I thought all early (94 ROW, 95 US cars) 993's had the basket handle & the light as pictured didn't start until 96.
Am I wrong?

I have a '95 with the third brake light valance and no basket handle. The change happens MY95. Not sure when.

My '95 RoW looks like the car in post #4 - no basket handle.

And for US spec coupes until sometime (probably late in) the 1995 MY. And FWIW, I'm not sure it's about "spoiling." Rather it's about meeting the CHMSL - Center High Mounted Stop Lamp regulation. While both versions appear to be aerodynamically designed, I doubt they do anything positive for the airflow compared to the massive impact of the rear wing. I'm sure someone can chime in with more info, but I suspect that in 1995 Porsche did not want to have two different solutions in production and the "Basket Handle" style was required for the Cabs (and Targas) - so the coupes got them as well. For a while.

I'd love to know when in 95 the coups stopped getting basket handles and were switched to the top mounted light.

If anybody has the answer, please chime in.

Its a 94, and has no towel bar or 3rd light spoiler, in fact no spoiler/valance in theat area at all. Just rear windshield up against the body work and the rubber seal

That's the right specification for a 1994 993!

Has anyone recently retrofitted the upper window spoiler and eliminated the "Basket Handle" on their 993?

I read in the bast several cases of rear windshields shattering after installation.

Any info on this phenomenon?
