Default 993 Cabriolet Shift ****

My Cabrio has a black ugly shift **** that is worn down a bit. Looking to replace the shift **** with a factory Shift **** aluminum piece. Does anyone know where I can get one of these for a decent price. How hard is the installation?

Thanks

I'm not sure if you want to replace the entire shift lever, or just the bezel with the imprinted shift pattern on it.

If it's an entire shifter, you have tons of options, not the least of which are several for sale at carnewal.com. Install is very easy and is addressed in the archives. I bought the MY02 shifter from carnewal, but sold it to a fellow rennlister because I couldn't stop it from buzzing. A long story.

As for just the bezel part, I believe someone sells them on Ebay and they supposedly snap in place.

You can always go to the dealer and order the part, but be prepared to get gouged. I'm looking to replace my worn cashmere shifter with a new OEM shifter and was quoted something like $350 for the part. Ouch. For that money, buy a MY02 996 shifter from Gert.

Gary - Gert "is" Carnewal. And he is overseas but responds quick. Everyone here seems to think he's top notch.

I actually would like to find out how to separate the shift pattern from the ****. I have a wooden **** and the pattern is worn off to some cardboard-like material. The **** is not round, it's anatomic-like handle. The pattern has a chrome outlay and appears to be... I dunno... glued dead on?
Also, I would love to use a regular Ferrari-like ball shift **** like I have on both my race cars. Does anyone make it for 993s, or should I use a universal one? If so, Momo makes some, but they are too light for my taste. Anyone else?

That is my brand new techart active rear spoiler, it looks fantastic but it is more trouble than the factory spoiler
