Question Should I Buy a Wind Deflector?

I am going back and forth on buying a wind deflector for behind the front seats for my Cab. Any advice would be appreciated. TIA

Have no experience with a Porsche convertible, but did have a BMW and the wind deflector made a BIG difference for top down motoring. Reduced wind buffeting considerably and made the car more usable from a top down perspective even on sunny winter days.

Thumbs up

I had a Saab convertible with a wind deflector like the Porsche one and it made a big difference - well worth it.

The wind deflector works very well. Less buffeting, less wind noise. Highly recommended.

Agree with all above posts - less noise / buffeting.
Key word being less.
Even with a windstop a 993 w/ top down at speed isn't really a *quiet* environment - but the music is very good.

2 questions - does the wind deflector render the rear seats unusable (I realize that the size of the rear seats renders them pretty much unusable), and also, how easy is it to remove - is there a quick-release, or is it something that you don't want to be taking on and off.

It does make the rear seats unusable (for people - our dogs are unfazed by it). It is very easy to remove, but I never do. I folds up flush to the headliner when the top is up. When the top is raised or lowered, you do nothing about the wind stop.

I highly recommend one.

Exclamation

love mine....... big love esp. this time of year in the evenings.

btw: any windstop owners know why the headliner has that zipper that runs along the windstop when it's stored above? just curious, as the unit is virtually hands-free.

thx.

oh & p.s. : 993maineiac... the w.s. can be simply pushed down when not needed, for cruising ocean drive etc...

I drove BMW convertibles for 5.5 years without deflector and just drove the 993 cross-country with deflector. It was OK at triple-digit speeds. One nice benefit is that it feels much warmer inside.
If you make your way down to Boston area, contact me and you can try your car with and without back-to-back to make that decision.
My opinion - depending on your travel patterns it's either nice to have or a must.
One caveat - as I seat very upright and close to the wheel, it vruches my hair with the top up, which is _very_ annoying. I take it off any time the roof is up.

Another "must have" vote, especially if you have women passengers and want the top down. Child seats and small children will fit in the rear seats without removing the deflector.

One thing I've learned in years of owning convertibles... the wind, of course, always blows back to front inside the cabin. As most of my female companions tend to have longer hair, I keep a baseball cap for them in the car. They get issued one if I want to hear what they are saying, otherwise they are not.
You can use the wind deflector the same way. It folds down, you know.

OK, full flame suit on :-) :-)

Thanks to everyone. I have to admit that after posting I decided to play hooky from work and took a couple of hour drive to Sugarloaf USA-mostly two lane curvey roads. All I could think of, besides the day of skiing with hardly anyone on the mountain and no lift lines-was how great it will be to get the baby back on those roads in the springtime. I will be getting a wind deflector so many thanks.
