Question OT: UK V5 Registration Form

You may have in an earlier post ( Bad Porsche Day ) that I'm having some trouble with an ex UK C4S which was imported into Ireland (south) from the UK. Checking through the documentation, I notice that I only have a photocopy of the V5 which only includes pages 4, 5 and 6.

I didn't think much of it at the time, as I have the Irish registration document which was produced when the car was re-registered. The original V5 would have had to be produced at this point.

However, I have subsequently discovered that the car was classed as was a Category D Insurance Loss in December 2000 after a fairly serious accident. See thread for full story.

Can anyone tell me what other pages I should have for the V5? Would they reference the Insurance loss? Maybe this is why I wasn't given the full document by the dealer in Ireland that imported the car? This will hopefully help me nail him and get some recompense.

Hi Ken,

I'm sorry to hear your continuing tale. I thought that the V5 document was always on one sheet with tear off sections for when you want to sell the car, etc. You would be best to contact the DVLA who should be able to provide a copy document once you have done the normal checks.

You might also want to put this query on the general board as well so that you capture more UK members.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Cheers,

David

David,

Thanks for the reply. I called the DVLA in NI this morning and they confirmed that pages 4, 5 and 6 are all that contain details of the car and the previous owner. They said that pages 1, 2 and 3 only contain general information about change of ownership and scrapping and nothing particular to the car or owners. The V5 wouldn't have contained any information about previous accidents.

They said that it was normal for me to have a photocopy (as a non UK owner) as when the car was registered in the Republic, the registration department here take the original V5 and replace it with the Irish registration document. They give a copy of the V5 to the owner and send the original back to the DVLA so they can record the fact that the car was exported and no longer in the UK or using the UK registration number. They probably only copied one side of the V5 as that's the only part with relevant information.

So it looks (thankfully) as though there was nothing sinester around the registration documents.

Did you do an HPI check? This should have pulled up insurance loss.

Hi Ken,

That is excellent news! I am very happy for you and it must be a big relief as you always think the worst in sorts of situations.

Cheers,

David
