Speedometer needle slipping after install of new gears
Just as the post says, after installing new odometer gears and installing the needle per instructions,
Push down and rotate
The needle seems to fall below the 0 mph mark after some time.
What am I doing wrong??

Are you saying while driving it falls as in the electrical connection has an intermittent problem, where the plug on the back of the gauge needs to be checked,
or
You feel the needle is slipping on its shaft and flopping down, in such case one needs to ensure the needle is pressed fully on and if still slipping I would use the tiniest drop of a weak glue such as rubber cement to cause it to not slip. Too much glue or too strong a glue, I feel will be problematic. If you let a tiny ball of glue dry into a sticky rubber state before applying it you may be able to better control its application as less is more in this use.

Try the appropriate Loctite if its the neddle slipping. I hear the needle can get out of calibration once removed, which is why you generally don't want remove it unless necessary.

I replace my gear without removing the needle, per once rennlist contributor, mgianzero.
HTH, despite it being after the fact. Who knows, maybe it will help others.

Outgassing from any of the cyanoacrylate adhesives will react with the polycarbonate face plate and cause blooming under the needle, turning the center of your colored/black dial a hazy white. So be VERY selective about what you use.

I would not use any Loctite products around anything that is plastic. Luckily it was only a plastic garden hose nozzle and I was trying to keep the metal screw from loosening. The plastic just disintegrated.

Gassing-out can be a problem for some, and very embarrassing too I suspect.
