So you guys think an lx470 with a 2500-2600lb. 944 spec car will be too much to pull?

What is the towing capacity, and the engine specs for the LX470?

Your going to have a little trouble towing anything other than an open trailer with that, from the Lexus site.
Tow rating (max): 5,000 lb, 235 hp @ 4,800 rpm, 320 lb-ft torque @ 3,400 rpm

Enclosed trailers usually weight over 3000lbs, + your car and your equipment.

Yeah, do not even consider an enclosed trailer towing with the LX. You are even going to be close to capacity with a full deck steel trailer. I had a Dodge Durango (7500 lb capacity) with extra computer mods for more torque, reduction pulleys and the like and towing my car and previous open trailer (18' 2100 lbs) up the Grapevine almost killed it. Consider getting a 16' wood deck, open center steel, or an aluminum trailer. You could have some serious issues otherwise...

I put a deposit on the trailer last night with Tom Miserandino. He is taking it to Willow next weekend so I have time to look for a cheap tow vehicle. I was going to use my wife's lx470 and get an open wheel trailer, but this was too nice to pass up. Tom and his son Mike run SCCA Ford Spec Racer and have it set up very nicely.

I anyone knows of something beefy ie. 3/4 ton or more for around 3-4k please contact me.
Also, I have 3 motorcycles and a 1975 Ford F100 4x4 that is pretty nice and would be open to a trade + cash for a more expensive rig.

Thanks,
Jason

Jason.... think Diesel if at all possible. Even if you have to wait and sell your other toys first.

Jason, I towed with a F250 with the 5.4 Triton and it still works like a champ. I prefer to tow with my Dually crew cab diesel however. The LX would work but only if You use the Trailex solution. That may be your best bet long term as it is difficult to find a good truck for 3-4k....

Kim, not sure on the gelcoat dilemna...perhaps a heat gun...?

I think I ended up with a good situation. I was able to trade my '75 f100 plus cash for a '96 c2500 extended cab v-tec 5.7L with towing package. Wish I wouldn't have sold my f250 diesel (bought from my brother) earlier this year. I agree Glen on the diesel and I was able to get the '96 for 3k (with my trade)

thanks everyone for the help!
