I use it twice a year on my daily driver and annually on my others. If the timing can be prior to an oil change, so much the better in case any blow by gets in the oil. Some have argued if it can loosen deposits in the fuel system, it could possibly thin oil slightly. I don’t know. I time it with oil changes just in case. It’s cheap insurance to keep injectors and valves clean.
Actually, there is a good writeup on their website that describes how often to use it.. They also say "before oil changes" but no more than 5 bottles between oil changes. This implies there may be something to the possibility of thinning oil; but it seems to take a lot to do it. One or two bottles between changes seems reasonable.
I buy the case of six bottles at COSTCO. Once a year I put it in two consecutive tanks of gas. It also clears up hard starting on the old weed wacker every time!
Techron Fuel Cleaner, 12 oz size, is $8.99 for 2-bottles until April 8th at Autozone.
You were very clear in your post but it didn't click with me that the 12 oz size only treats about 1/2 a tank. I went by Autozone and the large size that treats an entire tank was not on sale. I bring this up so no uses the 12 oz size on a full tank of gas. This dilutes it too much, so only use 1/2 tank with the 12 oz bottle.
I only bought two bottles and will instead wait until the larger 20 oz size (hopefully) goes on sale. It treats an entire tank and allows you to run it through the system longer.
I use Techron for the other family cars (all high miles, the Chevy now at 199k and healthy!), and have done so for likely over two decades now. I "trust" it's good stuff, but who really knows! Nevertheless, I still use it
That said, for the 993, I've always used Jectron (and Ventil Sauber when it was around) based on a recommendation from a highly touted Porsche guru. I just buy in bulk and that lasts me a couple of years. Is Jectron better than Techron? Who knows?!!!
