Default Boxster MY02 rims

Pardon my ignorance - but will the Boxster MY02s fit on a NB993 properly? Just need to add spacers?

If you can just get ahold of the rear Boxster wheels, that size and offset make them great wheels to put in the front.

Bridgestone S-03's are known to be heavy.

My question is - the guy selling these rims is actually running these on his NB 993 currently- so in what sense are they unsuitable for a 993?

Is it a safety issue? If not, what is the concern?

Pardon my ignorance once again, and appreciate any input.

Thanks.

Correction: the width of the rims are 7" front and 9" rear with 50mm and 52mm offsets respectively.

The "unsuitableness" is not because they will not fit (they will) or that they are unsafe (not a problem if these are factory wheels in good condition), but that the usual reason for changing wheels are either because your are looking for something lighter, something prettier, and/or something that allows you to use wider rubber. Since 8"/10" MY02s are available, why would anyone want to run 7"/9"?

The only reason IMHO is either because you can get an outstanding deal (they can be made to look OK and fit the wheel wells with spacers but you should add the cost into you calculation) or because you want to run snow chains so need the additional fender clearance (especially in the rear).

The Boxster MY02s will limit the size tires that you can run...with 7"/9" the proper tire size is probably 205 in front and either 255 or 265 in the rear. (FYI my car below now runs 245 in the front on a 9" ET40). Using 8"/10" MY02s lets you run up to 235 and 295 and using spacers is optional since these offsets are pretty close to ideal as far as filling out the wheel wells IMHO.

Thanks for the advice David.

Havent made up my mind on these rims - it's just that there's a 2nd hand set is being offered to me - wish they were the 996's but they are not. And am checking with you guys as to the whether they are suitable or not.

What is the going price for these in HK? What do you think would be an outstanding deal?

Alan
