Anyone know anything about this? Seems legit, but wondering why no one seems to be signing up? Am I missing something?

This is totally legit. I've received several replies by e-mail (as requested in my message above) and we are nearly booked. There are only 2 slots left (out of 30 car max for the event).

So how did this day go, guys? I've heard from at least one participant that it was a great day...

MC - how are your times coming along at T-Hill CCW?

IT WAS AWESOME...my first track day, so I might be a little biased...but really fun. Matt & crew had a good group of people there that were fun but also safe.

Default Thunderhill Private Track Day

We had a great time with only a couple spins (not me) and one burst coolant hose (a BMW Dinan 5). We had 2 993 Cab's, a 993 coupe, Boxter, 996 coupe, 996 Cab, 996 Turbo, 3 Corvette C-5 Roadsters, a Corvette Z-06, Viper, Acura NSX, 2 BMW M-5's, Volkswagen Golf 1.8T, Volkswagen Golf or Jetta wagon(!), Ford Focus SVT, Mazda RX-7 (late model), Mazda RX7 race car, 1965 Ford Mustang fastback track car (gutted - on Hoosiers), supercharged late model Camaro (610 rear wheel HP), Griggs Racing late model Mustang (with bored/stroked 331CI small block - on Hoosiers), Mazda Miata, Honda Accord V6 coupe, Nissan 350Z, BMW 330is, BMW M3, Audi S4 and more.

I turned a few laps in the 1:17's and the rest in the 1:18-1:19 range. Not bad but, I'd hoped to get into the 1:16's. I had a passenger/student in the car every lap so I never hung it out like I might have otherwise and paid the weight penalty as well.

All told it was a great day with plenty of track time, lunch included and shirts, caps, water, Powerbars, Clif Bars and more thrown in by Ric Paul. Weather was an unseasonably cool (for Thunderhill) 90 degrees. We introduced at least a dozen drivers to their first track experience and managed to provide instruction to every one of them. I know at least a couple of them have been bitten by the track day bug and are already making contributions to the parts/accessory market in preparation for our next event.

We've tentatively scheduled our next ThunderHill track date for October 15. Negotiations are underway and we are limiting the group to 35 cars. I'll post details shortly.

Yeah...the spinner was a crowd pleaser (wasn't me either)...decklid was loose anyway, and as he came around it popped open...thought Porsche was taking queues from NASCAR with their anti-flight popup stuff... No harm to driver or car, however.

Kim, those times are easier to get with a 3.8!

For us lowly 3.6L folk, a 2:09 may not be attainable. Matt used to spank me in the autocrosses, I'm hoping my cars suspension changes can offset the lack of skill. The LWF and gear changes certainly make a difference at the track - my best is in the 2:15s when I was chasing MaryBeth around the track for a session (she had the hotlap). I've not run yet in the CW direction.

Matt: you have M030 suspension and stock gearing? What tires when you were at TH?

tom, you need to put a 3.8L in your cab. slap on some MPSC and dice it up with YZ. i'll pull up the rear in my little car. 2:22's last time i was out there.

Kim, you and John are trying to take away my excuse for being slow. I have PSS-9's, I have MPSC tires, I have a LWF, and I have a tranny with shorter gears. The car's great, it just needs a driver that knows what they're doing. (Maybe that's why I belong in HWFMR?)

Don't make me come out there and show you all what a little ol' 86 Carrera can do at Thunderhill!!!

Matt - very respectible times! What are you running for tires these days? Any chance we'll see you out at the Marina autocrosses this weekend?

Tom - are you going to be running the GGR TT in October? It's good to see you're out on the track. If you're chasing Mary Beth, you're going fast!

You guys should definitely try out the CW direction. It makes the track much more technical, but yes, turn 1 is dangerous if not respected properly.

I'm teaching at the NSX school the weekend before your next event, so I'm not sure I'll make it, but I'll try. It'd be good to get out there and chase you around, Matt, Jos and Tom!

Cheers,

Dean

All - I was running PSS-9's, ROW M030 bars and Kumho Ecsta V700 tires.

Dean - Sorry I won't make Marina this weekend. In fact, I haven't made an autocross this year... yet. Soon, hopefully.

New track day post coming soon...

Dean, I hope to make the TT at TH in October if I get the Dr's permission to resume activity by then. I was hoping to go to Willow Springs with TracQuest next month but that looks unlikely. I hope to start "spirited" driving again at the autox in late September.

Matt, we've missed you at autocrosses so far this year. We do hope to see you at one soon.
