If this works, it will be one of the all-time great 993 discoveries. Curing one of the most annoying aspects of the car for $3 in parts. Sounds too good to be true. I should be able to tackle this in a few days when my caps arrive.

It would great if this pans out to be a repeatable solution. Now if only we could change a couple of electorlitics on the ECU and gain an additional 20 HP!!!

I just checked my range. Car in garage - from back - 13', from side, in garage - 16'.

My lights never flash. Are they supposed too? What could be the cause of them not flashing?

They are supposed to flash on ARM and DISARM. Two flashes on ARM one on DISARM.

Greg- The repair didn't change the behavior of my lights - they've always flashed. It's possible light behavior on lock/unlock is controlled by the ECU not the immobilizer. ECUs did have differences year-to year (and possibly within MY). -Jay

The Porsche (Bosch) 9288 Hammer (KTS-300, and I assume later versions) allows one to turn on or off the light flash feature when locking and unlocking the doors.. When I got my '96 993 this setting was turned off, but there were 2 owners before me who might have turned this feature off.

Agree, the Nichicons are the best cap available from digikey, ordering some now.

BTW: I make the 330uF cap digikey P/N 493-13140-1-ND

Jay, IainM, et all,
Thanks to all who have responded and provided the technical information, mfg., and source for the caps needed.

BTW, what makes the Nichicons the better caps?

Best regards!

Just be aware that these capacitors are electrolytic type and are polarized. When removing the old ones take note of the (–) cathode solder mount position and replace in the same orientation.
