Is this the same piece? I did a search on yahoo and found this site.
http://www.smartracingproducts.com/ProdCat/Shifter/Shifter.htm

They have a price of $950. It says it is for a 993, wonder if there are different products for the same application.
Thanks
Greg

Greg:

I'm pretty sure that's the wrong price on the Website. You should call and check though or call Bill Love at OG. The 964 shifter is cheaper than the 993 model, for sure.

Porsche built over 1200 993RS cars with all kinds of options in 1994-1996. It was possible to have any options on these cars INCLUDING sunroof, powerwindows, A/C, CD radio, powerseats and all the comfort stuff.

A factory RS or any factory built car is the RIGHT way to go........but as Hank and other have done........when its not-available BUILD IT yourself. Its completely doable and infact its MUCH MUCH better that factory RS for certain considerations for USA owners. Reasoning-- you can build it yourself and then DRIVE 24-7 on USA roads without any hassles whatsoever. No headaches about EPA, DOT or any aggravation factor.

If you have a dealer license you could import a 993RS or GT3 and put dealer plates on it an drive.....but your not legal.

Major parts for an 993RS conversion:
-3.8L engine with proper internals
-gears and lightweight flywheel
-Bilstein doublespring suspension w/monoballs
- 993TT brakes
-bodywork kit RS or RSCS with side skirts
-stiffer rubber in suspension arm
-lightweight hood
-front GT2/RS uprights/HUBS
- 18" wheels
- RS ****er fork/rod/steering wheel
other minor parts available at local Porcshe dealer
-plenty of money to do all of the above and then youll need Xtra wheels tires and #s for the doors

did I forget anything?

Joe:

The RS had a single spring suspension on Bilstein shocks and 993 TT front brakes, but unique rear brakes. I am not 100% positive, but I believe the rears are the same part as those from the rear of a 928 S4; at any rate they are not TT rears. Over here, we have all put TT brakes on because that is the easy way out and they are red.

The RS had its own brake master cylinder as well. It also has TT rear axle shafts with two retaining nuts at the wheel hub. The steering rack is unique to the RS as is its ratio.

There are other more subtle differences in the front and rear sub frame components, some of which are the same as the RSR/Supercup pieces. Additional items are a much larger fuel tank and the deletion of headlight washer nozzles. Lightweight rear glass without the heater element and manual windows and door locks were standard as well.

Drive Block was available in some countries, but the locks were still manual. As you point out, the factory can do anything the customer wishes for a fee, but it becomes less of an RS and more of a striped Carrera with a 993 powerkit (3.8 300HP motor).

The options that I know were available were a sunroof, comfort seats (sport seats) and Airbags. Airbags necessitated the standard Carrera steering wheel in place of the RS wheel. As far as I know these were the only STANDARD options available. These are nitpicking details to be sure, but they do illustrate how difficult it would be to duplicate one of these cars with any degree of fidelity.

I believe that most things were possible but never a sunroof ( because of the the flex and added weight) IMHO of course!!

Joe,

Hank has pointed out a major difference which you missed which is the steering rack. This does have a significant effect on altering the characteristics of the car.
Basically, it increases the 'go-kart' nature of the car

I believe that the rear brake calipers on the RS were the same as the biggest front calipers used on the 964 RS. Or at least the front brake pads used in the 964RS are the same part number as the 993RS rears.

The Clubsport also could be ordered with aluminium doors and none came with underseal or similar. Oh and no carpet under the hood, and a 1 litre wash bottle and no speed variable intermitant wipe.
