Smoke coming out of wheel arches?? Check for leaks!

Most typical is valve covers and/or timing chain covers. Oil leaks down onto heat exchangers and pools a bit right on top of the exchangers. Smells bad as well as visually disconcerting. If smoke is at the right wheel arch, it also could be a leaky drainplug or oil filter. Get under the car and take a good close look at things.

And as far as comsumption, forget the guage on the dash and check the dipstick. You first need to find out whether you're burning it or dripping it.

Thanks for all the help guys. I am pretty sure the smoke are oil related and it is likely to be the valve guide being wear out. I just don't expect to come at such low mileage. I have oil leak for the left and right valve cover gasket and not this.....Not to mention the slight problem I have with the tiptronic.....

Winsome, what mileage do you have on the car?
WHAT????????

You mean my car might be using polluted air to cool itself?........HOw can this be? Sometimes I have water dripping out of the exhaust pipe? Does this mean I have a blown head casket?

Phil, are you serious or just joking. We are owning the most awesome vehicle and most intelligently engineered Air Cool sportscar in the world! By the way if you see moisture for the exhaust tip then congrat since you have a very effcient catalytic convertor, nothing to worry about.

I have another thought regarding the smoking issue. If the fuel is too rich (I have performance chip installed) what would happen. Oh and I forgot to mention, sometime when I started the engine it will seems to "misfire"? the car will shake a little and if the light is on it will go dim in a fast frequency. It is difficult to describe...it stops when I start driving normally....

Any Idea?

Isn't a good rule of thumb that if the smoking occurs on trailing throttle then it's possibly valve guide wear? Just trying to cover all the bases...

Why debate, just get it in to the shop before you do any harm?
