Default Is this common with front trunk struts?

My front trunk struts were replaced.

The weather is @ 35F here.

They won't hold open the hood.

I don't have that problem in the rear.

Did I get a bad set of hood struts, or is this common is cold weather?

The struts were new.

They should hold. Possibly bad, new, parts. Where did you get them?

Part number is 993 511 331 00 and cost about $32/each.

You could have gotten a set that has been sitting on the shelf for years. Having owned a hatchback for many years, the cold and not staying up is your sign to replace them. For something as generic as a hood strut would get something like a Stabilus strut for around $18 from Pelican, Autohaus AZ, etc.

I have had the same issue from time to time. In 'normal' weather my front truck struts hold the lid up just fine, but when its cold(maybe 40*F and below) they will slowly fall. Would be an issue if it was 'that' cold more often, but not so bad here in Charleston, SC.

I just got the Stabilus from Pelican because I found some less favorite reviews for the URO. I will tackle the job next week for both of my 993s. I agree that cold weather is a good indicator that they are borderline and need replacement. I get maybe ~6 years from a set but replacement in the front is very easy.

Temp does affect the gas struts!
When mine are marginal they are fine in the warm weather, then when temp drops, so does the hood! And I'm taking maybe 50 in the wee-early mornings ...not even close to 35 so I'm not at all surprised yours drops. Replace them both with new ones and you're good in cold weather ...unless one of them is marginal, then yes, the hood may droop. If new, then ask for warranty replacement.

I third the Stabilus struts. Installed both front and rear a couple months ago and they’re holding up nicely. IIRC, they are the OEM manufacturer for the factory ones.

Same here. Also happens on my 4Runner hatch when very cold out.

Looking for the Stabilus part number. Partsgeek has:
Stabilus Hood Strut - Front
Stabilus Hood Strut - Right
Stabilus Hood Strut - Left

Thanks in advance.

Check AutohausAZ for the Stabilus parts. There's no left and right, just front and rear.
