Default OT: OBD scanner purchase help

Hey all!

Slightly OT as this is for non-Porsche use (as my 993 is OBD1), but I need to read and clear codes (like CEL) for a Volvo and Suburban with OBD2. What do you guys think of this one?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007XE8C74/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A35MJKSRDMB5RO&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007XE8C74/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A35MJKSRDMB5RO&psc=1
or...more expensive, but I don't know if I need the bells and whistles...

Generally, if you are interested in emission-related engine codes and you do not feel you need running data any inexpensive reader that covers your make/model/year will work fine.
The issue is when you are exploring issues with the HVAC, airbags, audio, or any other non-emission system or you are diagnosing an issue where a code is not thrown but you need to see running data to sort it out such as an aged oxygen sensor you will need a reader that sees the OE proprietary modules involved and can display running data. I went for years with a basic reader but eventually ended up with something that can read all the modules and provides running data and an additional inexpensive reader that can display Readiness states.

If you have an android phone or tablet, you can get a cheap OBD2 Bluetooth plug from the bay for less than 10 USD and there are free apps to reset codes. For an apple device, get the WLAN version of the plug (more expensive) and you need to pay for an app that is able to reset codes.

Thanks guys! I went with the inexpensive Autel. By the reviews, it looks like a basic scanner and rest tool so I hope that'll do the basics. Thanks for the feedback
