Question Why is my car vibrating?

Hi,
when I 'push' my car a bit harder on curvy roads, it sometimes starts to vibrate. It disappears after I slow down a bit. It never happens when driving on straight roads, only on curvy ones. Might it be something as trivial as badly balanced wheels or could it be something else?
Regards

Could be balancing/alignment...

I agree with checking the alignment, but what condition are your tires? Do they have a fair amount of tread left, and are they wearing evenly?

i just changed the back tires to new ones (front still really good), and checked the old ones for uneven wearing, but they seemed to have been wearing evenly. does the even wearing rule out bad alignment and/or bad balancing as the cause?

hi bins,
I forgot to mention that I just bought the car and replaced the tires right away, so I don't know if it happened before.

If all 4 tyres are the same make, then Im really not sure.

This may sound silly but I was wondering whether you should try the old ones and see what happens.

If you bought it from a dealer, and under warranty, maybe worthwhile having them check it out.

Just looked at one of the newer threads. What tyres do you have and whats the pressure on them. Try make them 36 all round and see if it helps any.

Check the front wheel bearings also. These shouldn't go bad in a street car but a friend with a C4S had a constant vibration and he found a bad bearing to be the culprit.

I test drove a '96 cab today that had a vibration at low speed. The vibration could be felt through the wheel as well as the shifter and the seat. The car just had 4 new SO2s so balance appears not to be the issue. When speaking to PPI shop - David at TRE - he suggested the possibility of either the wheel bearings or possibly a bent wheel (17" turbo twist?). Of course this was just a guess based on my description over the phone.

The vibration lessened significantly at fwy speed.

Check if any wheels are bent!! I bent a 17" cup front/right, and car vibrated like crazy over 80mph..!
