Well, hallelujah! The outside temperatures crept to 45F today and guess what - both washer pumps started working. Which proves the theory that fluid was frozen in there.
Strange but true. One less thing to worry about for now.
Thanks everybody who helped with this!
PS. What in God's name is kinematic update lever?

A simpler cause of your problem may be frozen lines from the tank pickup to the squirter nozzles. Was there water in the tank before you filled it w/the proper windshield washer antifreeze? If you're 400 miles from home, it's well below freezing.

Maintaining the proper washer fluid antifreeze mix is more important for our cars than front engined vehicles where the fluid tank is near a heat source (the engine). Glad it turned out to be a free fix.

Dan, you were the first one who properly identified the correct cause, congratulations!
I also own a mid-engined car and never had this problem. No, I will not go into my customary rant about German quality and what they are thinking about. Y'all will have a chance to hear it later :-)
