Default PSS9 and RS sway bar settings

Hi fellow Rennlisters,

Wheeee..........Just set off down the slippery slope with PSS9's,RS sway bars, RS strut brace and RS motor mounts, and Gerts front protection bar, aligment and corner weight to RS settings on a 1995 Carrerra fitted with SO2's. My question is what settings to use?

My shop set the PSS9's to 1 all round and the Sway bars to softest setting handling is awesome - i mean really awesome I had done 72K miles on the originally shocks!!! But it is riding a little harshly, haven't been on the track since the mods (only fitted 1.5 weeks ago)

I use the car 80% for DE events (trackdays) here in the UK, 20% for driving to and from work - I am lucky that I live in the cotswolds so even my daily commute is like a blast round a twisty circuit (only doing 60mph on that country road officer - honest!)

My question is what settings do you recommend - I rate myself as an intermediate track day driver (six events, all with instruction last year).

I have searched the archives but still none the wiser

TIA

John

For street, I like the PSS9's on full soft. For the track I set them to full firm. Porsche says to set the sways to the middle on each for the street. I found this provided too much understeer and changed to the rear at firm, the front is still in the middle. For track use you may want to adjust more depending on the handling your tires provide.

John,

If your shock settings are at 1, you should know that this is the stiffest setting for the shocks. 9 is the softest. Maybe your shop thought 1 was the softest since it set your bars to soft, as well.

7 front/6 rear is a good palce to start, as is 5/3. Try your sway bars at the middle position for front and rear and see how you like it. Personally, I think the middle settings have too much lean.

Is there any kind of general rule about how under/oversteer is affected by whether you have the front shocks/bars firmer than the rear? TIA.

Always good to start with both sway bars in the middle. You do not want to find out the hard way that you now have oversteer and were not prepared for it..... You can always adjust a little more later...

Also, if I'm not mistaken, you make large adjustments in handling with the rear bar and use the front bars to fine-tune.

Thanks all, will try with bars in middle setting and PSS9's around 5 front and rear and then will dial out some understeer but firming up the rear sway bars
