Question alternative jack

Does anyone have an alternative for the 'standard' jack that comes with the 993?

I've had a bad experience with the jack that comes with my car and won't be using it again. But I know at some point I'm going to have a flat and I want a better tool that I can carry with me to get the car safely off the ground.

Anyone have suggestions for an alternative?

Thanks in advance to all. Hope things are going well for you.

Chuck,

Seriously, the best alternative is to call Roadside Assistance! Out in the west it's AAA (Auto Club of SoCal), but whatever it is in your region, I believe it's a whole lot safer than crawling around on some shoulder. Research the number of of road workers that get hurt on the job by misfit drivers...and theses guys have bright orange vests!!! But if you insist on changing it yourself, I'd use a japanese-car-style scissors jack. They're cheap, especially at salvage yards, and I've found them very stable.

Edward,

Funny, I just got a AAA application in the mail early this week. Never been a member and never got an application before. I was mainly considering it for my wife. But now you have me thinking.....

Probably will do that. And next time I'm at the salvage yard, I'll put a scissors jack in my trunk just for the heck of it.

Good suggestions. Thanks,

chuck

Chuck,

AAA over there, eh? Glad to hear you'll not be on the side of the road any time soon
Oh, and if you ever get any word from Kinesis on that "Supercups" post, PM me would ya. I'd like to know what you learned as I love that rim and hope to get them one day, or something similar to that RS look, anyway. Take care

I just signed up for AAA premier; it has the added benefit of a 250-mile tow for free, in addition to 3 normal tows. Can’t beat the price.

Just get a jack from another car, maybe from a car scrap yard.
I leave a Honda Jack in the car.

AAA is the way to go. I am not too worried about my missing jack because I will do most DIY stuff but changing a tire roadside is a PITA and dangerous.

Get AAA!!!!!! I have used it three times and it saved my a$$. My 1991 M5 blew a hose on the steering pump 235 miles from home and blew Pentosin all over the bottom of the car (which is flammable). I only had the regular membership, but they still towed me to a major city where I could get it fixed, about 80 miles.

The second one was my 1981 911SC, when I blew a tire 100 miles from anywhere. I had my spare, but for some reason my wheel lock bolt was not in the glove box ?!?!?! I did not have AAA, but my passenger did. He called and they towed us about 80 miles to get the lock broken and get a new tire.

The third was my dad's Tahoe, which broke down in town, but since I was driving it, they covered it. I had his car towed about fifteen miles and saved him about $75-100.

I will be a AAA member forever, even if their rental car and hotel discounts are worthless. :-)

AAA is the way to go, if you get AAA Plus you can get towing for 100 miles free included in your membership. If calling always recommend a flat bed.
