Cab top blows fuse
Thanks for maintaining such a useful form! TIA for any help on this one.
My 95 cab top has been making some strange noises when putting the top down. I heard a clunk once or twice but most often hear the cables crunching a bit. These noises persisted for a couple of months, but now I have no response/top movement other than hearing the fuse pop immediately when I push the top down button. I investigated and found the cable spools (where the disengaging bolts are located) were both loose. I suspect this was the "clunking" I was hearing. It appears as though on one side 2 of the bolts holding it in place were off, and one bold on the other side! I tightened down as best as I could.
I disengaged the power top by loosening both bolts and it travels up and down fine. I'm likely to keep it this way but wanted to know if anybody else has experienced this and if it's a big fix and within the capability of a somewhat skilled DIY.
I can't seem to find "fuse blow cab" in the forum, though I know there's lots written about other problems with the top. Thanks.

Possibly cables got asymmetrically stretched and the increased load is blowing the fuse. Skilled mechanic in my opinion, but the top always intimidated me.

My top guy shortened the cables to assist in the operation of 993 tops......
These tops are a PITA..... joy of ownership of a 993 cab
I have spent with one new top $6500 over 20 years of ownership, which isn’t terrible but still result of the design and mechanics on the top.....
