Default Engine leak identification

Hi,

Leak just under the timing chain cover

can some one tell me what is the location of the leak. Valve cover and chain. Over gaskets replaced last year. Left side is worse than right?

Looks like chain case gasket. I would live with it until you drop the motor for bigger repairs. #6

thanks for the quick reply.
The driver side seems to be also leaking from cylinder close to the rear bumper, i dont know how serious cylinder leaks are in air cooled engines? In water cooled engine it will mean head gasket leak, which is not good.

Leaks at timing chain covers and #6 above are very common including base of cylinder #1 ( driver side closest to bumper).

Thats a low point for the area so it could be leaking from multiple areas and the drip ends up there. Research told me its commonly just the chain cover gaskets, but there was a chance that it was the chain housing gaskets which I understand requires cam timing and more disassembly. I opted to take a chance and only do the chain cover gaskets because others before me found it was only the cover gaskets. Unfortunately upon reassembly I found that I still had a minor leak from the chain housing gaskets (#6 above). Of course knowing that I suggest acquiring the specialty tools and learn to time the cams if you don't know how to already.

Does it drip on the exhaust manifold and smell? If not is it an issue?
